Have you ever found yourself stuck between Baltimore and Washington, with no idea where to head next? Located between the two urban cities, at the confluence of Route 40 and Route 91, is the town of Finksburg. This is a small, rural town with a rich history and an abundance of independent restaurants, cafes, and shops to explore.

The town is named after Adam Fink, one of the first residents to be considered a property tycoon during the 1800’s. Nowadays, Fink is seldom remembered. Instead, the town is known for its historical connections to the Civil War, as well as a place to pick up some wonderful one-off antiques. Visitors are often surprised to learn that Finksburg is also close to several beautiful reservoirs and vast regional parks!

All of these perks add up for an incredible adventure in your Finksburg camper rental!

Discover Finksburg

The Great Outdoors

When you rent a motorhome in Finksburg, you will find plenty of opportunities to take advantage of the great outdoors all year round! Covering over 3000 acres, Liberty Reservoir boasts great opportunities for fishing and boating. The Patapsco River is the main tributary feeding the reservoir and brings with it a whole host of different species of fish. These include anything from largemouth bass to bluegill, crappie, and white perch. The particularly skilled fisherman will even have a good chance to secure a trophy-sized white crappie, commonly sited here! If fishing isn’t for you, take a leisurely stroll along one of the many paved trails that runs around the reservoir, looking out for the resident population of deer in the area!

Follow the Patapsco River back down to its original source in Marriottsville, and you will find yourself in the Patapsco Valley State Park. With ample riverside trails suitable for hikers, bikers or horse riders, vacationers can explore the park any way they see fit. The Switchback Trail is the most popular hike and winds 3.9 miles along the river and through the forest. For a shorter walk, Rapids Trail offers a twenty-minute introduction into the beautiful wooded park.

Soldiers Delight Natural Environment Area is also a must see and a big reason why many choose to bring their motorhome rental from Finksburg here. This isolated pocket of serpentine rock harbors its own ecosystem and cultivates over 39 rare and endangered plant species, insects and rock types. With over seven miles of hiking trails available, undulating through some of the best spots in the park, you are bound to discover something new. After the walk, why not head to the informative nature center, to learn a little more about the unique flora and fauna in the area.

RV Parks

Despite its close proximity to the sprawling metropolis of Baltimore, when you book an RV in Carroll County, you will have plenty of options to park up for the night.

Ramble Pines Campground is an all-round great campsite. With easy access to incredible urban attractions whilst sitting in such an idyllic location, this is a great place to base yourself for a week or so. There are over 200 campsites here, with full amenities for your Finksburg camper rental, including full hookups, a swimming pool, gym, and convenience store with essential supplies!

For a campground a little closer to Baltimore, head down to the lower section of Patapsco Valley State Park where you will find Hollofield Camping Area. An easy thirty-minute drive into Baltimore, this scenic location will have you thinking you are much deeper into the country. There are only electrical hookups here, but they do provide great washroom amenities!

Alternatively, cruise northeast from Finksburg to Interstate Route 86. This drive will take you through the scenic Prettyboy Reservoir and lead you straight to the Merry Meadows Recreational Farm. Situated on three different levels, campers can choose from open meadow or forested campsites, all located within walking distance of a huge 275-acre park.

Exploring the City

Once you have secured an RV rental in Finksburg, you will be able explore some of the prominent historical sites in the area. The best place to start is the Carroll County Farm Museum located in Westminster, an easy twenty-minute drive from town. The museum is a historic farm complex consisting of fifteen buildings that date back to the 1800’s. Here, visitors can explore the historical buildings, take part in a blacksmith workshop, learn how to weave cloth, and ultimately discover the regions agricultural heritage.

On your way back to Finksburg, head to Taylor-Manning-Leppo historical house. Built in the 1860’s this is an excellent example of 19th century, Germanic log bank housing crossed with English influences in the form of parlors and halls. On the National Register of Historic Places, this is a must see if you are in the area.

For a bit of light-hearted fun, Finksburg holds an annual Strawberry festival during June, celebrating the new years harvest. Admission is free, and there are plenty of fun festivities to keep you busy. Try one of the many homemade strawberry jams, a slice of strawberry shortcake or even some strawberry infused lemonade! Who knew you could have so many different varieties of one fruit!

And of course the beautiful city of Baltimore is right on your doorstep, with a plethora of museums and art galleries, should you need a little more culture in your getaway! Rent an RV in Finksburg, MD, and go explore!
