Beck Memorial Park Campground

It's always nice when an RV campground has proximate access to both nature's blessings and urban amenities, having the best of both right at your doorstep. Beck Memorial Park Campground in Decatur, Nebraska, offers exactly that. This small RV park is on the edge of the town and next to the similarly named urban park and the Missouri River. This family and pet-friendly seasonal campground is open from April to October, and it has restrooms, shower facilities, a sewer dump, and a playground for younger kids. The individual campsites have picnic tables and fire rings; some of them have water and electric hookups while others have just the electricity with 30/50 amp service.Once you're set up and ready to venture forth, the campground has a boat ramp so you can head out to do some fishing, and a cleaning station for when you return with your catch. Decatur is just a short walk away and is the right size to take a leisurely stroll through town on your way to dining out. There are several churches in town with interesting architecture and a handful of restaurants you can try out. Remember to take the rental RV for a spin while you have the chance; driving an RV is an exhilarating experience, one you don't want to miss.

The Great Outdoors

Book an RV in Burt County and start your explorations by heading towards Middle Decatur Bend State Wildlife Management Area. It's located across the Missouri River but still within the state of Nebraska, the result of a shift in the river's path. You can come here to fish in either the river or in Decatur Lake, located on the opposite side of the WMA. The lake is a spawning ground for the resident fish species as well as a feeding and rearing habitat.Lewis and Clark State Park is located just across the river in the state of Iowa, a short drive from the campsites at Beck Memorial Park Campground. It's a popular place for hiking and picnicking; while you're here, you may have a chance to observe the resident deer, rabbits, and squirrels, as well as a variety of bird species. It's also adjacent to Blue Lake, where you can use the beach for swimming or suntanning or use the boat ramp to enjoy some fishing in the well-stocked lake. The park is named after the famous explorers Lewis and Clark, who spent some time in the area while on their journey.Summit Lake State Recreation Area, near Tekamah, is renowned for its fishing and variety of fish species such as northern pike and walleye, but it also has areas for swimming, restrooms, picnicking areas, and numerous trails in the woods surrounding the lake where you can hike and mountain bike. The park has a no-wake boating policy, which makes it ideal for canoeing and kayaking and camping facilities to accommodate both primitive camping and RV camping. Park your motorhome rental nearby, and you can take your catch straight from the lake to the fridge.

Exploring The Area

While you're here, it would be worthwhile to see and experience some of the history and culture of the area. Start by heading for the town of Oakland, which has ties to Sweden, both genetically and socially; this friendly community hosts a bi-annual Swedish festival that has gained a lot of attention, leading to the town's designation as “The Swedish Capital of Nebraska.” The title was granted by the Swedish Consul-General and the Governor of Nebraska. The town's small size is actually one of its strengths; it has limited restaurant offerings, but what is available is well run.Another choice you have is the town of West Point, which prides itself on its community theater where you can view current movies or attend a local play or some other event (ask some of the town's vendors, and they can probably tell you if there is anything scheduled). The town's size makes it ideal for a post-meal walk and taking in the sites. If you decide to dine here, there are both privately owned restaurants and some of the popular chain-style venues, so there is something for everyone, no matter what your tastes are.Finding that right balance of activity and experience can be a challenge when planning an RV rental vacation; luckily for you, Burt County has a bit of everything; history, culture, and nature, in whatever combination suits you. Camping at Beck Memorial Park Campground is where your adventure begins.

Questions about RVs?

Q.

What type of RV should I choose?

A.

Start by determining how many people are planning to travel with you. Going on a solo-journey? Choose a camper van or a teardrop trailer. Bringing the whole family along for the ride? Consider a spacious Class A or five-wheel.

You’ll also want to consider amenities. For example, if you’re planning to cook on the road, you’ll want a kitchenette. If your campground doesn’t have public restrooms, you’ll want to search RVs with bathrooms. Check out full descriptions of our models to help you decide here.

Q.

Do the RVs have bathrooms?

A.

Yes. Class A’s, Class B’s, and Class C’s and five-Wheels typically have bathrooms. Depending on where you plan on camping, you’ll want to double-check the availability of restrooms if selecting a rig without a bathroom. Nervous about renting an RV with a bathroom? Owners can help show you how to clean the tank or will offer to do it for you for a fee.

Q.

How does check-in work?

A.

Once an Owner approves your RV reservation, you can coordinate a time to pick up your rig or have it delivered to your doorstep or campsite. At that point, the owner will do a key exchange with you and walk you through the RV and answer any questions you might have.
