Fifteen miles south of Carson City is the town of Minden. Minden was named by Heinrich Friedrich Dangberg Jr, an immigrant who chose to name the new area after his hometown in Germany. In fact, most of the town’s first settlers were German immigrants who moved west to find a new place to build a life. Minden was originally a pioneer town that revolved around ranching, but when the V&T Railroad decided to extend its railway to Minden, the area was opened up to the outside world with tourism evolving into the main industry.

Now Minden has flourished into a gorgeous town beside the Sierra Nevada Mountains, with Lake Tahoe and many world-class skiing mountains nearby. This outdoor destination is great all year round for a variety of reasons and offers lots of open space to play outdoors. If that wasn’t enough already, the nearby casinos ensure that there is never a dull moment when you book an RV in Minden, Nevada.

Discover Minden

Experience the Sites and Scenery

When Dangberg founded the Minden community, he envisioned a peaceful town centered around a town square where events could take place and the general public could convene. To this day, Minden Park sits at the heart of Minden and serves this function. This beautiful two-acre park has a magnificent gazebo that can be used for both public and private events, like the many concerts, town celebrations, and festivals that take place throughout the year. Zephyr Cove Park has an extensive system of trails perfect for jogging or walking a dog, along with several volleyball and tennis courts and an 18-hole disc golf course. Topaz Lake Recreation Area is able to accommodate your Minden RV rental with its lush campground along the water’s edge. People who stay at Topaz Lake Recreation Area overnight enjoy fishing in the pristine waters or touring the waters with a boat ride.

When you rent an RV in Minden, you can head to any of the fantastic recreation areas curated by the state of Nevada. Washoe Lake State Park revolves around Washoe Lake, in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. This exceptional state park has long been a top destination for windsurfers who enjoy the raging winds and open waters. Additionally, people love to ride ATVs, ride on horses, camp, fish in the fully stocked lake, or even hang glide at one of the world’s best gliding spots. Lahontan State Recreation Area is another amazing place to go in your Minden motorhome rental, offering peace and quiet in Nevada’s high deserts. The park is named for the massive ancient lake that covered most of Nevada, and is a fun place to hunt, fish, camp, and explore.

El Dorado National Forest and Tahoe National Forest both share the majestic Lake Tahoe, the largest alpine lake in North America, and the largest lake by volume outside of the Great Lakes region. Lake Tahoe straddles the Nevada-California state line and gives millions of people an excellent place to cool off each year during the arid summer months. The Sierra Nevada Mountains surround the lake’s cerulean waters with incredible views, and unparalleled natural beauty. You could also bring your Minden rental RV over to Stanislaus National Forest, Plumas National Forest, or Yosemite National Park if you don't mind a small road trip over state lines.

City Attractions

When people choose to book a rental RV in Minden, they do so not only because of the breathtaking natural beauty of the region, but also to revel in the charm of a true American small town. It may be small but any trip to Minden is always memorable due to the storied history and ornate buildings that grace the town. Several buildings in Minden happen to appear on the National Register of Historic Places, such as the Douglas County Courthouse, the Minden Wool Warehouse, Minden Elementary School, and the Minden Inn, among others. The COD Casino and the Carson Valley Inn Casino are just a couple of the many casinos located within Carson Valley and Nevada as a whole. The larger casinos up in Reno are about an hour’s drive away in your Minden camper rental. Both of the main casinos located in Minden have live entertainment options, gaming floors, shopping, and dining, too.

For those who would like to gain a better understanding of both Minden and Carson Valley as a whole, the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center does an outstanding job educating and enlightening the public. The museum is housed in an old high school and features exhibits recounting the harrowing history of the settlers, and the complicated cultures that lived in Nevada for thousands of years before the settlers. Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park is noteworthy for being the residence of Minden’s founding father. This living museum still operates as a ranch, but gives tours to the public so they may better understand what life was like for frontier folk in the 1800s.
