The quiet town of Woodbine was founded in 1891 by Eastern European Jews who escaped the persecution and came to New Jersey in search of a safe haven. The settlement was sustained through agriculture and quickly prospered. The center point of this rural community is, therefore, the Woodbine Brotherhood Synagogue on Washington Street.

Woodbine is a fantastic location to rent an RV and not only for its historical significance. The county is brimming with recreational activities in nearby state parks and teeming with wildlife in protected nature areas. Plus, Woodbine is just a step away from 130 miles of the sparkling Atlantic coastline which stretches from Cape May to Sandy Hook. The town is well connected to neighboring points of interest, such as Wharton State Forest and New Jersey beaches and is easily accessible via highway from Philadelphia or New York.

The Great Outdoors

When you book an RV in Woodbine you’ll find that there are plenty of outdoors adventures to fill your vacation with. An excellent place to start is Belleplain State Forest. This environmentally protected area is located less than two miles from the center of town yet hosts a variety of tree and plant species. Strolling along one of the park's hiking trails visitors can find a mixture of Atlantic white cedar, oak, and young pine. Horseback riding, mountain biking, picnicking, and camping, plus swimming and boating on Lake Nummy, are popular activities in Belleplain State Forest.

Taking your Woodbine travel trailer rental on a scenic seaside drive you can stop at any of the beaches for swimming and surfing, or for sunbathing and playing on the sand. The Jersey Cape beaches are ranked as some of the best, not just in the state, but in the USA. Most are manned by lifeguards all day throughout the summer season. Aside from splashing in the water, the beaches offer a variety of activities from open-air movie nights to lifeguard races, sand sculpting to zombie runs, and volleyball matches to yoga classes. Each year the Wildwood beach hosts the International Kite Flying Tournament and International Marbles Tournament. Ocean City is also a popular beach that you can take your Woodbine RV rental to. Just outside of town are the Cape May National Wildlife Refuge and the Tuckahoe Wildlife Management Area which is a fantastic spot for bird watching. The tidal creeks, hardwood swamps, salt marshes, and freshwater lakes around the area host many amphibians, turtles, fish, and beavers as well as oak and pine trees.

Continue south from Ocean City and you’ll reach Corson Inlet State Park. This wildlife area is ideal for hiking, boating, wildlife spotting, and sunbathing. It hosts a combination of marine estuaries as well as primary and secondary sand dunes systems. There are also a number of protected wildlife areas west of Woodbine on the banks of the Delaware Bay. Glades Wildlife Refuge is just a 20-mile drive away with the Woodbine motorhome rental.

One of the highlights of the region is the Wharton State Forest. Within this nature area, visitors can enjoy miles of horseback riding and cycling on unpaved roads, go kayaking and canoeing on the forest’s many waterways, hike a major section of the 53.5-mile Batona Trail, or keep an eye out for native wildlife. Hummingbirds, fox, deer, beavers, river otters, bald eagles, ospreys, red-tail hawks, great blue herons, goldfinches, and purple martins are just some of the species that can be found. This state forest also hosts Batsto Village, formerly an industrial center for glass and iron, as well as a visitors center, picnic area, and playgrounds.
