This summer, plan a motorhome camping trip to Blue Ridge Parkway, considered America’s longest linear park that runs through the two states of North Carolina and Virginia. Referred to as ‘America’s Favorite Drive,’ Blue Ridge Parkway is an All-American Road and National Parkway that is known for its stunning scenic beauty. Extending over 469 miles, the parkway runs from north to south, passing through Asheville and Boone in North Carolina, and three major cities in Virginia - Waynesboro, Roanoke, and Galax. Following the ridge of the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains for most of the parkway, the recreational motor road is a sheer delight for outdoor enthusiasts. The parkway also connects the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia on the northern end, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park on its southern end.

Renting an RV is a convenient way of getting around, especially if you want to traverse the entire length of the parkway; you’ll find a range of affordable RV rentals in Buncombe County. With several campgrounds along the parkway, camping at Blue Ridge Parkway is a fun experience, and you get to make the most of several recreational opportunities offered at different points along the way.

Getting Outdoors

RV camping along Blue Ridge Parkway is fun for outdoor enthusiasts who have access to lots of outdoor recreation. The parkway has over 350 miles of hiking trails to explore, and you’ll be in a quandary as to which trail to choose! The best way to choose a hiking trail is to stop at the nearest visitor center where you’ll have access to plenty of information on the various trails, lengths, difficulty levels, what you get to see along your hike, and so on.

While it may sound unlikely, fishing is a highly sought-after activity along the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are numerous streams along the way that are perfect for fishing, and there are 13 manmade lakes too. The lakes along the parkway are stocked with warm water species like bass, bluegill, and bream. The natural streams have trout, brown trout, rainbow trout, and brook trout. Remember to have a valid fishing license for either Virginia or North Carolina when fishing in any of the water bodies along Blue Ridge parkway.

A great way to explore Blue Ridge Parkway during your RV rental vacation is bicycling your way through certain parts. While there are no specific bike lanes, and the road is open to vehicular traffic, be extra cautious when riding your bicycle along the parkway.
