Durham lies just a short drive from North Carolina’s capital of Raleigh, and together with the city of Chapel Hill, they from the state’s famed Research Triangle. The “Triangle” is known for its top-tier universities of UNC, Duke, and North Carolina State and the prolific scientific and social research that comes from them. Due to the presence of these schools, Durham has the character of a hip college town with great restaurants, bars, art museums, and entertainment options to prove it.

Durham RV rentals by owner are an excellent way to explore all that Durham has to offer, giving you the freedom to camp on the outskirts of town, enjoying nature, and permitting road trips to attractions further afield. Plus with two other amazing cities making up the legs of the Research Triangle, you should never be short on things to see.

The Great Outdoors

Trying to find some quick outdoor recreation? West Point on the Eno should be your first stop. The park has hiking trails, places to swim, and a historical mill to peruse if you’re interested in finding out about the area’s history. There’s also the Festival for the Eno each July, which draws in tens of thousands of visitors for great music, art and crafts, and of course, local foods.

Also close by is Rolling View Falls State Park, about twenty minutes to the east of town. The lake is a popular fishing spot with locals, but you can always swim or rent a kayak to paddle around with. This is the perfect day trip if you need to get away from the city with your Durham travel trailer rental.

If the beach is part of your dream vacation with your Durham RV rental, consider heading to Cape Hatteras or Cape Lookout National Seashores. These are some of North Carolina’s best-known beaches and are well worth the roughly four and a half hour drive to either of them. Swim, surf, kayak, or just lay in the sand, they’re great places to experience the joy of North Carolina’s Outer Banks.

Exploring the Town of Durham

There’s no question, the beating heart of Durham is Duke University, bringing an exceptional level of diversity and culture to this section of North Carolina.
