James was such an amazing person to work with! He explained everything in detail and was very patient with my questions. The RV/camper van was also in terrific condition; I've been daydreaming about having one of my own ever since I rented from James. The interior is smaller than your standard RV but there is actually plenty of storage and the amenities worked well. I also liked that dumping the gray water didn't require going to an RV station (you can dump in a toilet, and it's actually not as gross as I thought it would be).

- exceptionally clean and well maintained vehicle. you can clearly tell the owner took great care of the vehicle. It feels even significantly better maintained than some of the professional RV rental companies.
- extremely well equipped vehicle. has pretty much everything I needed for 3-day trip from cooking/sleeping to entertainment.
- lots of storage spaces.
- very thorough walkthrough from the owner James.
- very friendly owner. promptly answers our questions every time throughout our trip.

I went from San Francisco to Joshua Tree Park for a week (and had a fabulous time).James was conscientious and helpful from start to finish. He answered all my questions quickly and clearly, and when there was a minor issue with the electrical system (a circuit breaker just needed to be flipped), he was immediately available. When renting an inherently complex "house on wheels," it's vital to have a reliable person to trouble shoot any issues that might come up, and James is fantastic.

I was a little wary after reading a recent review, but my rental experience was wonderful. The RV description was accurate and James did a good job of explaining how everything works, as well as ensuring proper cleaning protocols to keep everyone safe during this pandemic. I would not hesitate from renting from him again.

Seven months into Shelter in Place meant that like many, we needed to explore different ways to recreate. We were very excited to find this RV and take it on the road to Alabama Hills. Air Quality was poor, so we booked a dispersed camp site on a farm in Santa Barbara. These destinations were disclosed to the owner but only upon pick up were the following stipulations shared:
- do not take this vehicle on dirt roads; its not meant for that
- the table neither stows away or fully opens. it is stuck folded
- the moon roof vent doesn't fully close. his wife had shoved a pillow up there but took it away at transfer and mentioned that while it was janky, it was better than what was originally there. so it had a tremendous amount of noise when driving over 50 mph
- the shower is a pain so don't bother
- the gas tank doesn't fill completely
- don't use the awning (the only thing we knew to rent ahead of time)Outdoorsy customer service outlined our options of recourse. Dispute and/or leave an honest review. So that's what this is. It's not meant to excoriate the owner. I just want a future renter to get what we would have appreciated-- full and complete disclosure about what worked/didn't work on the van prior to rental so we could make an informed decision. Not the day of, but prior to booking. The pictures shown on Outdoorsy are of a brand-new van with everything functioning. He also sent a YouTube video showing how to use the van. Not of him, not of his van.

Susan and James's van was an excellent vehicle for our long-weekend trip. It drove easily and got decent gas mileage (about 15 MPG). It had plenty of storage (even with one upper cabinet unavailable), a roomy and comfortable bed, and a well-laid-out galley for everything from oatmeal to stir-frying. Susan provided an extremely thoughtful and organized set of cookware and dishware, plus little handy things like paper towels and zip-lock bags.
We managed to go four days without draining the fresh water nor filling the gray water (which nevertheless read 2/3 full most of the trip), using campground facilities at times. The solar panels refilled the lithium batteries well when we got out of the trees and exposed them to the sun.
Susan was great at communicating with us about the rental and at explaining the van's systems (while we had problems getting the hot water to work, it was likely our fault).
Overall, as veteran car/tent campers, we found their van was a convenient, comfortable, luxurious, self-contained way to travel to both primitive and not-so-primitive campsites.

My wife and I had a great time with this class B RV. It was our first time with Outdoorsy and a RV and we had a great experience. James was excellent to work with and very helpful in explaining how everything works. RV was very clean and worked great. Looking forward to another trip some day!

Nice rig, very energy efficient. Using the mixed DC and propane setting keep the whole RV comfortable and warm under 30 degrees night. Just about the right size for us, easy driving and parking. Excellent communication and smooth transaction. Highly recommended. Thanks, we have a such wonderful New Year’s Day camp out.

We had a very nice experience with Susan/James's RV. We were curious how an RV like that would work for us and it worked well. It was comfortable to drive, fit in regular parking places, the bed was very comfortable and everywhere we stayed, people came over to look at it. Thanks for a great experience!

Great RV and great owners. The rig is basically brand new, and has everything you'd want for a small RV. It has the best battery/ solar/ recharge system I've ever seen. We barely used 1/10th of the battery reserve with the solar and recharge during driving 1/2 hr. Bed was large and comfortable compared to others Ive rented. Windows have good ventilation and shading options. Great fridge and stove too and easy to drive. James and Susan were very helpful and accommodating. They took the time to show me many of the features (a few of which i forgot because it has so many). Pick up and drop off was very easy and convenient too. Couldn't have had a better RV experience!

Such a well designed vehicle. Could not have wanted anything more from a Rv. Loved the retractable screened windows and doors...Felt we were outside but protected from bugs.The battery/solar system allowed us to never have to worry about running out of power. It was easy to drive and had decent power.

I have been thinking of buying a small RV and when I saw this new Hymer Activ Class B Van on Outdoorsy, I thought it would be a great idea to "try before we buy!" My husband and I rented it for 10 days and went to attend the Heart Mountain Pilgrimage in Powell, Wyoming and visit Yellowstone Natl Park. The van was easy to drive and park and I really liked all the amenities but my husband felt, as he is a lot bigger than me, that the van did not give him much room. After all, it is a van, 19'7", so everything is conveniently compacted in a nice package! (Maybe if our trip was just a weekend thing, he would have enjoyed it more). However, we both did enjoy our trip and only wished we had a couple more days in that area, as there's so much to see in 3500 acres of wilderness!
Working with the owners, James and Susan was great, and we reassured them that we would take good care of their new van, and we even returned it spotless!
I mentioned to James that we had people approaching us about how beautiful the van was. Wish I could have told them I owned it!

James had excellent communication throughout the entire process and answered any questions we had. The Aktiv was such a great experience! Lots of people stared and asked about it on our trip. We came from out of town and James had lots of little details on the RV that made the trip easier for us; such as towels, linens, cookware, pillows, fold chairs, flashlights, plenty of toilet paper, plenty of trash bags, gloves, and even a memory foam topper which made the bed feel amazing. We slept pretty well the 8 nights we stayed. I recommend others to rent with James!
