We had a wonderful trip to North Cascades National Park in Senthil's RV. Even though we'd brought and set up a tent, we ended up sleeping in the RV; two adults with one child in the bunk, which was a real treat for him. While the RV isn't new (year 2014 with 155,000 miles), the diesel engine runs flawlessly and with good power. It drives like a truck, as expected, and the 24 ft length, for me, took some getting used to. The rear camera was helpful in that regard. Setting it up for sleep was straightforward. The RV was clean and everything worked well, although we didn't use the TV. Senthil was friendly, helpful, easily accessible, and his instructions were clear - he even let us pick up the RV early. In terms of the listing, the only apparent inaccuracy was that there was no trailer hitch or slot for attaching a hitch bike rack - the rest was completely accurate. In short, we were very satisfied with Senthil's RV; it allowed us to enjoy our holiday without having to worry about travel or sleeping.

Great van

July 20201

After picking up the vehicle on Thursday July 16, we noticed that the engine light was on and that the brakes felt funny and made a screeching sound. We notified the the owner & he said that he had just had the car in for service and the engine light was a fluke of the computer and that the brakes were ok. We had planned to take the vehicle camping Friday, but instead we took it to the Mercedes dealer to see if we could still make this work since at that point we had no other options.
We were told that the EGR bypass flap was stuck in open position. The DPF filter was non- functioning & causing ash & soot to build up; we were told that that this could cause the car to just not start at some point. In addition, the front calipers were frozen and brake pads o-1 mm, and rotors need replacing, which was causing the screeching sound. The repair estimate came to $5000. Because of these issues we felt we could not take the chance of being unsafe and using this vehicle. We took the van back to the owner, who was unapologetic, unconcerned for our safety (or apparently for his own liability) and somewhat hostile, saying he wouldn’t refund the money. His comment was “Well, it’s drivable”!!!! We were being charged $250 per day.

Senthil’s answer

We have our vans serviced regularly at Mercedes Benz of Seattle and they had advised that the brakes still have 5-10k miles before replacement. We had also done a EGR clean cycle on the Sprinter (part of our annual maintenance program before the beginning of every season). The van is under MB Extended Factory Warranty until 2021 and all issues are covered for free without any deductible so there is no reason for me not to get any repair work done. In spite of my suggestion to get it checked at our regular dealership, Chris took the van to a dealer of his choice who had a different opinion on what needed to be done. Regardless, I was willing to get the repair work done at our regular MB dealer and compensate Chris for the lost days. However, Chris just showed up unannounced at our place and dropped off the keys without giving us an opportunity to satisfy his concerns. Sprinter's are fairly complex machines and I prefer to have all maintenance done by the same dealership. All dealer paperwork has been submitted to Outdoorsy as part of my account to comply with their polices. A check engine light can denote a lot of things and the 2014 Sprinter has advanced diagnostics that will tell you how severe/immediate the attention needed is. Since this happened, I had the brake pads, rotors, calipers and master brake cylinder replaced and also an EGR/sensor replacement ahead of schedule. The van has been rented out 4 times after this and all guests had positive experiences with no issues.

We had a great time renting Senthil's Sprinter van. It was clean, well-equipped and easy to handle. We had a few questions over the course of the weekend, and Senthil provided timely and helpful responses. We would recommend this vehicle to anyone looking for an accessible and efficient vehicle to take out for trips of all sorts.
