Calvin is a nice enough guy but unfortunately, I had a bad rental experience with him. He advertised this RV as "sleeps 5" but it actually only has seat belts for 4 people. I like to be safe with my family and it's also against the law to drive without a seat belt in my state.

Anyway, I discovered this when he brough the RV by and as such had to refuse the rental. What happened next was very unfortunate. Calvin wanted to charge me 50% of the rental, which seemed excessive since we never went anywhere in his RV.

Outdoorsy's dispute resolution wasn't much help, in fact, they actually made it worse by reducing the refund amount to just one night and credit of another night for a future rental. Again, this seems unfair considering we didn't use the RV at all and it was not as advertised.

Also, it's an older rig. It's full of his stuff and kind of run-down honestly. If you're dying to try out a solar-powered/composting toilet RV, this is your ticket. But at least in my area, there are many, much nicer RVs to rent and from easier to deal with owners.

Anyway, all this is to say that if you want to rent Calvin's RV be very sure it's exactly what you want before reserving with him. He's not very flexible when it comes to issues and Outdoorsy can't seem to do anything useful to help.

Calvin was very accommodating and responsive, which for a first-time RV renter like me was superhelpful.

I believe we were Calvin's third or fourth rental. This is an excellent RV that I would highly recommend to any one looking to get off the beaten path! We never once plugged it relying 100% of the time on solar. We had one day where we didn't get a ton of sun (because we were parked in the shade) where we had to run the generator to charge the batteries but other than that, having the solar and composting toilet really made this RV trip so easy and comfortable.

The setup is great...beds are comfortable, ample counter space for cooking and cleaning. Everything was operational and in working order.

The only issue we had was cleanliness and how the RV was delivered. It was filled with Calvin's stuff: camping gear, extra linens, pillows...lots of random things we didn't need.

My suggestion is to communicate with Calvin in advance (he is a great communicator and replies almost instantly to messages) about what exactly you need and what you don't. There is not a ton of storage space in the RV because of the solar batteries etc. so be clear with him what you need and what you don't. For us, we needed the max amount of storage space - as a family of 4 - and had the RV not been delivered to us, we would have had no place to put his stuff or ours for the trip. There are tons of RV tools and cleaning supplies in the kitchen cabinets that are basically piled in...so those cabinets have no room for anything other than his stuff which lives inside. Honestly, it was a bit of a mess...

At the same time, I feel we delivered the RV to Calvin cleaner than he delivered it to us. The RV he delivered, was a dirty mess filled with his belongings. This did not make us happy - especially in the middle of a pandemic.

So there are some things that Calvin could work on to make this RV rental 5 stars. He is so close. Deliver the RV cleaner, less cluttered and remove your belongings when you rent it and this would have been perfect!

All this being said, I would happily rent from Calvin again...but I would just tell him in advance to strip the rig bare and clean it better.
