This is a fully restored, lifted and re-powered automatic transmission 1986 VW Vanagon GL Westfalia. Vanagon Westys were already the world's most exquisitely designed camper vans, but with suspension and engine upgrades (Ford Zetec Dohc), we've done all we could think of to make ours even better. Simply put, there is no better vehicle for traveling and exploring the wilds of the Pacific Northwest. Goldie is a compact, nimble, aesthetic camper that parks and drives more like a car than an RV, but can sleep 4 adults comfortably and sports a fully functioning, propane-powered kitchenette (refrigerator, 2-burner stove, and kitchen sink with 14-gallon water tank).

For the better part of a decade I’ve been a documentary photographer based in Seattle. In the early days as a freelancer I needed a vehicle that I could live in for indeterminate lengths of time, work out of comfortably, and go just about anywhere. The van was always been a trusty companion, affording me high levels of comfort and security while I worked.

Had a great time and in Goldie in spite of some technical difficulties. She ran like a champ and did everything that was asked.

My friend and I are recently retired and we spent 6 nights in Goldie on a girlfriend adventure. We explored through Vancouver B.C., the Northern Cascades, Mt Ranier, and the Olympic Peninsula. We really enjoyed the feeling of a slow roll throughout the miles knowing we could stop anywhere. Mike was very helpful and we did not worry about anything. Just had a beautiful joyful time.

We loved spending Valentine's weekend out on the peninsula and Goldie was the perfect home. Even with a bit of a dicey drive out with record snow in Seattle, she safely got us to the coast. The weekend was cold and wet in the Hoh rainforest, but having such a comfy, warm, dry place to cook and rest inbetween rainy hikes was amazing. Everything we needed, from sleeping bags to cookware was provided, so all we had to do was pack our raincoats and go. Mike at BFW did a great job giving us a rundown on the van, was super flexible and thoughtful considering the extreme weather conditions, and gave us a lot of great advice. Winter camping is awesome; less crowds and no bugs, especially with a cute westy to keep you warm. I've been singing the praises of Black Forest Westfalia's to all my friends and family since getting back!

We rented Goldie for 4 nights and stayed in the Baker Lake campgrounds off of Hwy 20. Goldie was great on the roads to trailheads and was easy to maneuver in tight spaces. The van was comfortable for the two of us and stored our gear and food in cabinets leaving us plenty of floor space. It was a very fun way to camp and have a hiking holiday.
