Michael was great to rent from. The rig was comfortable for our family of 3 (as someone who needs my own space, I can't imagine more people staying indoors but if there were people sleeping in tents also I think it would work as a good home base). Here are the positives about the RV: (1) the bed was very comfortable (the second 'bed' above the cockpit was firm but not so firm that I couldn't sleep soundly, but I preferred the softer bed personally); (2) the hot water was HOT and plentiful so long as we had hookups. We didn't test it without hookups; (3) the fridge stayed cold, even when we didn't have power for 24 hrs, though we did run the generator every 4-6 hours for about 90 min to ensure our food didn't spoil; (4) the fridge and freezer are quite large. We brought all our food for the trip, pre-cooked/prepped and we were in the RV for a week so it was a LOT of food. It fit everything easily and the freezer had ample room as well; (5) the RV has tons of storage space. We brought so much stuff, including the food I mentioned, that we had to take 2 cars to get to the RV (we drove 3 hours from our home first) and the RV still had room to spare storage-wise; (6) the shower was great(!!!) and surprisingly stayed hot after a 5-8 min shower. We did stagger our showers, had hookups, had the gas heater and the electric water heater on, but it was just as good as showering from home. The water pressure was fine, and we didn't have to take Navy showers where you turn on the shower to get wet, soap up, and then turn it back on to rinse in order to avoid a cold shower. This was a huge plus; (7) the rig was mostly easy to drive, and if you've driven a larger U-Haul before, it was especially easy. We had the reverse camera on all the time so we could see cars behind us, and we drove a somewhat windy 101 up to the Redwoods at the top of CA and if you went the speed limit it handled fine. I recommend not going above the speed limit to avoid any major feelings of tipping or bumpiness. Trust me on this one; (8) the RV has a heater inside that runs on a thermostat and it was actually so warm some nights we were... too hot... which is funny as we thought we'd be freezing and brought 0 degree sleeping bags and tons of warm clothes. It was great; (9) Cooking was a breeze as there is a microwave, a stove and an oven (the listing says no oven at present, but it's there and we used it a few times). The stove and oven, when ran, will require open windows to ventilate but this was easy enough to do. We had trouble lighting the oven at first, but you have to make sure the pilot is lit first, then go past the "flame" on the oven to like 400 to get it going while turning the igniter. It took us 10 min the first time and some trial and error but it worked like a charm. We did bring a lot of our own kitchen stuff since I'm an amateur chef but there are pots and pans included plus some bowls (we had to buy plates and cups, though, on the way up, as they weren't included so maybe someone accidentally took them when they departed?); (10) as a newer rig, this RV didn't leak during the most insane rain storm - I'm so glad we rented a newer one as I know leaks are common in RVs. OK now for the (very few) things that were bummers: (1) there are only lap belts in the dinette area so we stuck our kid up front where the shoulder harness was and one of us drove while the other risked life and limb to sit in the back. Haha. It felt like that sometimes, anyway, especially on curvy roads. Had I prepared better, I would have purchased one of these lap belt to shoulder belt converters that kids can wear (but they're insanely expensive - be forewarned). I haven't been in an RV for 40 yrs since I was a kid and back then we had no belts at all. So, I kind of naively assumed shoulder belts would be required in the back. They're not. Just something to be aware of; (2) a few times we wished we knew where the manual was but seeing as we didn't have internet or cell service where we were for 4 days, we couldn't ask. There were things that we wanted to get more detail about (like how to work the panel that shows the back up camera all the time) that took trial and error (it's a touch screen, which our 9 yr old figured out - ha); (3) there is no canopy because someone drove with it open and ripped it off which would have been a nice to have since it was pouring where we were for 24 straight hours; (4) the RV was EXTREMELY clean except for the comforter smelled bad. We slept in sleeping bags on top of it, and put a blanket between our bags and the comforter so it wasn't a deal breaker, but as a person who is sensitive to bad smells, I wouldn't have been able to sleep in the bed had I not had my sleeping bag. I'm 100% sure Michael will remedy this as it just needs to be washed, I'm sure. Someone didn't use the shower I think as much as we did. Maybe they didn't know how awesome the shower was? :D That's all for pros and cons. All in all it was a GREAT experience to rent from Michael and he was very helpful, responsive, super friendly/funny, and a great host. We would definitely rent from him again. (P.S. I highly recommend watching the 90 min instructional video on how this RV operates that Michael will send the link for. We both did and it was IMPERITIVE to our success, I believe... especially with the gray water/black water/propane levels, etc.)
