Arlington is known as “Fun Central,” and for very good reason. In addition to one of the largest theme parks in the world (the Six Flags/Hurricane Harbor combo), the city boasts AT&T Stadium, which is the home of the Dallas Cowboys. Some locals call it the “Death Star.” When you see it live and from a distance, you’ll understand why. These attractions are once-in-a-lifetime stops for many people. But there’s still so much more to explore in this area, especially if you book an RV in Arlington.

Discover Arlington

Experience the Sites and Scenery

To really experience a place, one needs to go beyond the tourist destinations. These venues certainly shouldn’t be overlooked, but there should be other places on your itinerary as well. Joe Pool Lake is in nearby Cedar Hill (a.k.a “the chill”). It’s just a few minutes away with the Arlington RV rental. The 7,700-acre lake has four parks and a marina. As you’d expect, there are plenty of camping sites, picnic facilities, and hiking trails. Boating and swimming are popular on the lake as well. The same applies to fishing, because the bass and catfish are almost always biting. The area has some rich history as well. Archeological digs reveal that the first humans arrived about 6,000 years ago.

Lake Grapevine is on the opposite side of Arlington. Some 30 miles of trails criss-cross the area. These trails are nice for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. The lake is a very good place for campers. There are a variety of spots, from primitive sites to prepared sites to places for your Arlington rental RV. On a lake the size of this one near Grapevine, water sports are quite popular, so there are three marinas and 12 boat ramps along the shore. Fishing is allowed on the entire lake, and hunters may use the northwest corridor. In 2010, one such hunter found some 96-million-year-old fossilized bird bones. Many believe these are the oldest bird bones in the Western Hemisphere.

Closer to town, you’ll find the 1,300-acre River Legacy Park. It straddles the banks of the Trinity River. So far, scientists have identified 400 wildlife species, 28 kinds of trees, and 193 bird species. The park also features some 10 miles of cross-country trails, as well as a kid’s playground like no other. The equipment is built directly into the trees. Feel free to take a breather inside the River Legacy Living Science Center. Don’t miss the aquarium and weekly Saturday program.

In addition to lots of green space, the Richard Greene Linear Park has some very cool stone sculptures. The recently-dedicated park was part of the AT&T Stadium redevelopment project in 2009. In its brief history, this park has already won several awards. It also beat out other parks from across the country to land the aforementioned stone sculptures. These giants took two years and $1.5 million to complete.

City Attractions

In addition to the sports stadiums and theme parks, visitors and resident alike should check out the Arlington Museum of Art. It’s primarily dedicated to modern art from Texas. Past exhibits have included art from Texas students, Salvador Dali, and Toulouse-Lautrec. If a day trip in your Arlington motorhome rental to nearby Dallas tempts you, check out the Perot Science Museum. It has three floors of interactive science exhibits. Kids and kids at heart can do things like experience what an earthquake feels like. You can also try to outrun a Tyrannosaurus Rex or hit a Nolan Ryan fastball. Foodies might appreciate the fact that the first El Fenix Restaurant is down the block on McKinney Avenue.

What’s Unique

Many people think that a place like Arlington, which is sandwiched between two large cities, would have little identity. But that’s not the case. There are plenty of chain restaurants and stores. However, few other places in Texas still have that pioneer and entrepreneurial spirit that Arlington has in spades. Once again, you’ll just have to experience it for yourself to know what we mean.

Where to Park It

The well-shaded Treetops RV Resort is could be a nice place to keep the Arlington camper rental while you’re in town. There are over 165 sites, many with their own grills. Other amenities include two air-conditioned laundromats, a large outdoor pool, and two large bathhouses. Almost every week, there’s at least one potluck dinner, barbecue, or other community event. The Arlington Place RV Park is quite nice as well. Drive your Arlington rental RV here to experience a no-frills park. The lots are large and grassy, further developing that getting-back-to-nature vibe.

The Food

Arlington is “Barbecue Central” as well as “Fun Central.” Barbecued ribs are bony and messy and also extremely tasty. If you feel like some Tex-Mex, try the quail at Uncle Julio’s. It’s bony and tasty as well. Perhaps best of all, there are lots of neighborhood grocery stores in Arlington. So, you can find ethnic food there that’s unavailable anywhere else. If you need cooking advice, don’t be shy. Just ask somebody.

A few days, or a few months, in Arlington is a unique experience for everyone in your family. So, start planning your Arlington RV rental trip today.
