Point your Cedar Hill camper rental towards Cedar Hill State Park, which currently has well over 45 miles of multipurpose, integrated trails and bike paths. The longest multi-use trail was created by DORBA, which is “Dallas Off-Road Bicycle Association.” Though they have created multiple trails in other parks, Cedar Hill’s is considered one of the top mountain biking trails in the state.

Cedar Hill hugs the coast of the Joe Pool Lake, a popular fishing spot. The lake is stocked with fish such as largemouth black bass, crappie, and catfish. Either fish from the banks or on a boat. Other people come for birdwatching, also. 500 species of birds make their home in this park, so make sure to pack those binoculars in your RV.

Neighboring Cedar Hill Preserve, overseen by Audubon Dallas, also is a popular birdwatching park. Birds often sighted in both the State Park and Preserve include: yellow-crowned night heron, egrets, hawks, eagles, and rare Black-Capped Vireo. There are several miles of hiking and biking trails, as well, and self-guided tours of the historic agriculture center.

Nearby Dogwood Canyon, which was formed by the rare convergence of two ecosystems (desert prairie and woods), encompasses over 200 acres. Visitors will find a mix of wildlife and plant life for each ecosystem, such as Dogwood trees, the rare Hexalectris orchids, which grows nowhere else in the wild, and Golden-Cheeked Warbler, an endangered songbird. The trails in this park are easy to moderately challenging. Unfortunately, Fido is only able to accompany you on Saturdays.

When you rent a motorhome in Cedar Hill, you’ll need someplace to call home for a few days. The Cedar Hill area caters to out-of-town visitors.

Dallas Hi Ho RV Park in Glenn Heights is a tree-shaded RV park, which is a nice feature in a region known for blazing hot days. An “old fashioned” park, its amenities are spartan, though they do offer full hookups for your RV, restrooms and showers, and a laundry facility. It’s also pet-friendly.

Texan RV Ranch in Mansfield boasts a country setting and includes amenities like free WiFi, private showers, laundry facilities, dog runs, a pool, and a convenience store.

Cedar Hill State Park offers RV campsites with full hookups to include sewer and water access, and a few lots are ADA accessible. One RV campsite is very close to the waterfront, while the other is set back into the trees and more private.

Should you need to stop somewhere overnight, consider Walmart, larger grocery stores, or truck stops. There are several Walmarts within 10-miles of town and many are known to be RV-friendly. Be sure to ask the store manager for permission before you set up for the evening.

Epic Waters Indoor Park in Grand Prairie is an impressive 80,000-square-foot indoor/outdoor waterpark. Nicknamed “land cruise ship,” there are dozens of waterslides, pools, lazy rivers, and a water play area for young children. An outdoor wave pool is thrilling, and there’s a boogie-board water feature where you can learn how to boogie, too! Note: there are height and weight restrictions for some water slides.

Walk on the wild side and visit the Dallas Zoo, Fort Worth Botanical Gardens, Dallas Arboretum, Dallas Nature Center and dozens of other nature reserves in the region.

The Six Flags over Texas and Hurricane Harbor parks are “can’t-miss” adventures for many visitors to the region. Both parks feature rides ranging from pulse-pounding to gentler slides ideal for young children. Note: Both parks are closed in winters, and in spring and fall months, are open only on weekends.
