The Great Outdoors

Fort Hood Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area is one of the closest natural areas to Killeen. The park has many steep-banked streams and canyons that are facing Austin, and you can go hiking, nature observing, and exploring. The park also has numerous caves, springs, and creeks. Elm Grove Estates is close to an array of city conveniences. Numerous gas stations surround the park, and the restaurant scene is diverse. Within a few miles, Killeen campers can sample cuisines ranging from fast food and deli offerings to Venezuelan, Italian, barbecue, and Southern-style fare. Prefer to cook back at your campsite? Several grocery stores are close to the RV park, so you can be whipping up camp-style meals in no time.With an RV rental in Bell County, you can visit many interesting attractions and museums. Just a few minutes' drive east of Elm Grove Estates, you can visit the Bell County Museum where you can learn about the history, archaeology, and culture of the county. Some of the artifacts displayed in the museum are 16,000 years old. Learn about the Gault Site, Chisholm Trail, or Little River Log Cabin. If you are traveling with kids, they might enjoy the museum's educational children's programs.The two military museums of Fort Hood, the 1st Cavalry Division Museum and the 3rd Cavalry Regiment Museum, are nearby when you're camping in Killeen. The museums highlight the roles that the 1st and 3rd Cavalry have had since being established in 1846. These soldiers fought in the Civil War, Indian Wars, Spanish-American War, World War I and II, and other conflicts. During your visit, you can see uniforms, weapons, tanks, helicopters, photographs, and more.Close to the Bell County Museum in Belton, you can also spend time at the local water park.
