The Great Outdoors

The Texas Gulf Coast region is packed with natural attractions. North of Houston is the Sam Houston National Forest, which is an excellent place to appreciate the Texas terrain. Hundreds of miles of hiking trails lace through the forest, with options for day hiking as well as more intensive backpacking trips. The forest also has trails available for mountain biking, horseback riding, and off-road vehicles. Camping sites can be found throughout the forest for those who want to stay overnight. Several lakes and ponds in the area offer opportunities for swimming, fishing, and boating.Another convenient outdoor destination near your campsite at Houston Leisure RV Resort is the Baytown Nature Center. This nature preserve is a short drive from the RV park and is situated on a small peninsula on the bay. A small network of walking trails can be traversed, and several areas are ideal for a bayside picnic. A fishing pier is located along the water as well; be sure to check local fishing regulations before you go. This park is also a great place for bird watching, as hundreds of migratory birds pass through the area every year.Dwight D. Eisenhower Park and Lake Houston are also within easy reach when you book an RV rental in Harris County. A nature trail runs through the park, which has particularly excellent scenery in the fall when the leaves are changing. Visitors can also take advantage of a picnic area and a playground, which are excellent for families. You can go fishing in Lake Houston as well. The predominant fish species in the area include largemouth bass, white bass, white crappie, bluegill, and blue catfish. If you want to go boating on Lake Houston, you can head to the north end of the lake, where you’ll find the Lake Houston Marina. Boat ramps are located at various points around the lake, and there are some local outfitters where you can rent a boat.

Questions about RVs?

Q.

What type of RV should I choose?

A.

Start by determining how many people are planning to travel with you. Going on a solo-journey? Choose a camper van or a teardrop trailer. Bringing the whole family along for the ride? Consider a spacious Class A or five-wheel.

You’ll also want to consider amenities. For example, if you’re planning to cook on the road, you’ll want a kitchenette. If your campground doesn’t have public restrooms, you’ll want to search RVs with bathrooms. Check out full descriptions of our models to help you decide here.

Q.

Do the RVs have bathrooms?

A.

Yes. Class A’s, Class B’s, and Class C’s and five-Wheels typically have bathrooms. Depending on where you plan on camping, you’ll want to double-check the availability of restrooms if selecting a rig without a bathroom. Nervous about renting an RV with a bathroom? Owners can help show you how to clean the tank or will offer to do it for you for a fee.

Q.

How does check-in work?

A.

Once an Owner approves your RV reservation, you can coordinate a time to pick up your rig or have it delivered to your doorstep or campsite. At that point, the owner will do a key exchange with you and walk you through the RV and answer any questions you might have.
