The park's almost 300 miles of trails can be used for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. You can also explore the park by paddling or driving. This is another excellent location for stargazing. Other activities in the park include bird watching, nature observing, hunting, and fishing.Davis Mountains State Park is located about an hour's drive northwest of Marathon Motel and RV Park. This beautiful park features unique scenery and offers many outdoor recreational opportunities, including horseback riding, hiking, biking, and more. It's a popular bird-watching destination in the area, with over 300 species of birds to observe. Of all the trails in the park, the most exciting one is the four-mile-long Skyline Drive Trail, running up and down mountain ridges and valleys. There are also Ranger programs that you can follow if you want to learn more about the area.

When you rent an RV in Brewster County, you can drive to many interesting nearby museums and attractions. On a hot summer day, consider a visit to one of the world’s largest spring-fed swimming pools, located in Balmorhea State Park. The water is crystal clear, and you can swim, scuba dive, snorkel, or sunbathe. The swimming pool also has a gorgeous view of the distant mountains. Hiking, geocaching, and camping are some of the land-based recreational opportunities here.Head 30 minutes' drive northwest of the RV park and tour The Museum of the Big Bend in Alpine. The museum is located on the campus of Sul Ross State University. Here you can learn about local history through exhibits, programs, and activities for adults and children. The museum also displays artwork created by both national and local artists, plus old maps, artifacts, photographs, and more. Some of the exhibits you can see here include the Big Bend Legacy, Livermore Cache, Retablos Collection, and others.Fort Davis National Historic Site is located in Fort Davis, about an hour's drive northwest of Marathon. This important historical location is very well preserved, and it's open to visitors year-round. The fort dates back to the American Indian Wars from 1854 to 1891. It served as a frontier military post with the primary purpose of protecting travelers, mail coaches, and freight wagons on the San Antonio-El Paso Road and along the Chihuahua Trail. Kids can partake in the Junior Ranger program's scavenger hunt, a fun and educational way to learn more about the site.
