The Great Outdoors

There’s lots to do and see right at Possum Kingdom State Park. Possum Kingdom Lake features scenic coves and 300 miles of shoreline. Enjoy fishing, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, boating, and water skiing. There are a fishing pier and a fish cleaning station. Canoes, wakeboards, kneeboards, water skis, and tubes are available for rent. Other recreational activities to enjoy here include hiking, biking, nature study, and geocaching. There is an interactive trail map. The marina offers some fishing supplies, camping items, and groceries.You can also explore the legendary Davy Crockett National Forest when you are staying at one of the RV parks in Caddo. This forest sits within the Neches and Trinity river basins, and it covers over 160,000 acres of woodlands, streams, and wildlife. Special places in the forest include the Four C National Recreation Trail, the Big Slough Wilderness Area, and the Alabama Creek Wildlife Management Area. The Ratcliff Lake Recreation Area features a beach with a bathhouse and swimming, fishing, an interpretive forest trail, a picnic area, and concessions. Other recreational activities in the forest include water sports, hiking, biking, hunting and fishing, wildlife observation, nature viewing, and photography.Lake Mineral Wells State Park and Trailway is also easily accessible when you're staying at Possum Kingdom Campground. The park is near a former health resort. It now features a lake, the Penitentiary Hollow rock climbing area, and an amphitheater. There are six fishing piers, and rods, reels, and tackle boxes are available on loan. Flat-bottom boats with trolling motors, rowboats, canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards are available for rent. The 20-mile trailway system follows a reclaimed railroad bed with gentle grades and curves. There are 16 bridges with decks and rails. Drinking water and restrooms are available at all four of the trailheads. Interactive trail maps, rock climbing maps, and interpretive guides are downloadable. Ranger-led programs for all ages include wildflower walks, wilderness survival, astronomy, and cowboy history through music and poetry.

Exploring the Area

You’ll be near Abilene when you rent a camper near Possum Kingdom State Park. Abilene is known as the “Official Storybook Capital of Texas,” and visitors of all ages will appreciate the character sculptures in the downtown district, the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature, the Adamson-Spalding Storybook Garden, and the three-day Children’s Art and Literacy Festival. Other things to do and see here include the Frontier Texas! museum, the Abilene Zoo, and the historic Fort Phantom Hill. There is a self-guided historic downtown walking tour. Special events that take place in and near here include the Outlaws and Legends Music Fest, Big Country Balloon Fest, the Western Heritage Classic, Big Day Downtown, and the Big Country Air and Space Expo.The Dallas /Fort Worth metroplex is also accessible when you camp in an RV near Caddo. This area is an industrial and cultural hub of the region. It combines the antebellum South, contemporary innovation, and a thriving food and entertainment scene to guarantee a good time for visitors of all ages and stages. Some highlights include the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, Six Flags over Texas, the Dallas World Aquarium and the Dallas Zoo, Fort Worth Water Gardens, and the Amon Carter Museum of Modern Art.Themed tours of the region include a cowboy and culture bus tour, ghost tours, party and pub crawls, and a JFK Assassination and Museum tour that includes the Lee Harvey Oswald rooming house. Do the RVs have bathrooms?

Yes. Class A’s, Class B’s, and Class C’s and five-Wheels typically have bathrooms. Depending on where you plan on camping, you’ll want to double-check the availability of restrooms if selecting a rig without a bathroom. Nervous about renting an RV with a bathroom? Owners can help show you how to clean the tank or will offer to do it for you for a fee.

How does check-in work?

A.

Once an Owner approves your RV reservation, you can coordinate a time to pick up your rig or have it delivered to your doorstep or campsite. At that point, the owner will do a key exchange with you and walk you through the RV and answer any questions you might have.
