The Great Outdoors

Since Roanoke sits on the edge of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metro Area in the Central Texas Plains, visitors to the city can easily access some of the best parks that Texas has to offer. The Bob Jones Nature Center in neighboring Southlake offers a handful of hiking and horseback riding trails along Grapevine Lake as well as environmental education programs for visitors interested in learning more about the area’s ecosystem. If you’re interested in learning more about the Central Texas Plains, you can also check out the Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge. This nature center features over 15 miles of trails and a canoe launch, and it also is home to some of the last remaining Great Plains bison. Fort Richardson State Park also offers visitors a unique learning experience at a restored post-Civil War military fort as well as hiking, biking, swimming, and fishing opportunities.

If you want to spend a day on the water, head to Eagle Mountain Lake, Lake Mineral Wells State Park, or Ray Roberts Lake State Park. Eagle Mountain Lake is ideal for boaters with fishing, waterskiing, and wakeboarding permitted on the water as well as on-site boat rentals available, and if you need a break from the water, you can always hike through one of the lake’s surrounding parks. Ray Roberts Lake also offers plenty for visitors to enjoy on and off the water. Visitors looking to spend a day on the lake can enjoy swimming, paddle boating, and fishing, or you can hike, bike, or even rollerblade on trails throughout the park. Lake Mineral Wells State Park is another great park to visit with the Roanoke RV rental. The park has a lake for fishing and flat-bottomed boating as well as over 12 miles of multi-use trails and Penitentiary Hollow, a popular rock climbing destination in North Texas. When you rent an RV in Roanoke, you’ll easily be able to soak in the natural beauty of the Central Texas Plains.

RV Parks

The city’s proximity to major metro areas and parks means that you’ll easily find a great home base for your motorhome rental near Roanoke. Sandy Lake RV Resort in nearby Carrollton offers full-service amenities like full hookups, laundry, and Wi-Fi as well as extras like a pool, on-site lake, and fitness center. Destiny Dallas RV Resort is another option, offering full-hookup sites in a gorgeous wooded park with amenities like a pool and hot tub, an on-site RV wash, and a recreation hall. If you want to stay as close to town as possible with the Roanoke camper rental, check out Northlake Village RV Park. This park offers full hookups, laundry, Wi-Fi, a pool, and an off-leash dog park for all guests to enjoy.

If you’d like to get a bit closer to nature when you rent an RV, you can camp at one of the state parks surrounding Roanoke. Lake Mineral Wells State Park offers campsites with electrical hookups, and visitors have access to showers and restrooms on site. Ray Roberts Lake State Park offers even more options for RV campers, with sites featuring electric hookups, and some sites with both electrical and water hookups. However, other than hookups, Ray Roberts Lake doesn’t offer much in the way of amenities. Fort Richardson State Park, however, offers full-hookup campsites as well as some with electricity and water, and restrooms are near all of the campsites.

Exploring the City

Once you’ve worn yourself out on the trails or at the lake, you can relax in Roanoke or head to the big city for some urban exploration. Although Roanoke is a relatively small town compared to neighboring Dallas or Denton, it still has all of your RV basics like gas stations, retailers, and repair shops. History buffs can visit the Roanoke Visitor Center and Museum, which is housed in a historic saloon and brothel building, and if you have kids in tow, you can head to the Hawaiian Falls Water Park. If you want to make the trip to the big city, you’ll find plenty to do. Head to the Fort Worth Stockyards to explore a historic shopping district, or spend a day at Six Flags Over Texas. If you’re looking for dinner, drinks, or entertainment, head to Dallas’s Deep Ellum or Uptown districts for a memorable night on the town.
