Information About Waco, TX

The city of Waco, along the Brazos River, is a great place to experience Texas culture while still having most of the amenities of a larger city. Book an RV in Waco and explore the many attractions there, while still having the freedom to venture outside the city limits with your own set of wheels and accommodations.

If you’re concerned about finding a place to park or driving the streets in this city, there’s always the option of taking public transportation. The Waco Transit System runs several bus lines, an airport shuttle, and a trolley line to explore the city’s famed Silo District. If you’re uncomfortable driving your Waco RV rental in more densely populated areas, this is an excellent option.

Whether you’re a fan of museums, history, art, sporting events or any kind of outdoor adventure, Waco will have something for you. Additionally, Waco is well connected to the rest of Texas with Houston being less than a three-hour drive away while Austin and Dallas are only an hour and a half’s drive down the road.

RV Parks Near Waco

The wide open plains of Texas provide endless camping opportunities, so you should have no issues finding a place to park your Waco camper rental for the night. You’ll just need to decide what location best suits your travel itinerary and the types of amenities you’d like to have. All of the RV parks are within a 20-minute drive from the city.

To the north of the city, there are a few RV parks around. All have decent amenities and some feature dump stations and other added conveniences. On the southeastern side of the city, there is also a selection of RV parks and campgrounds.

On the western edge of the city, there are a handful of RV parks, too. A couple provide access to water recreation as they are close to the shores of Lake Waco.

If you need to pick up any last minute supplies for your Waco motorhome rental, the city has three Walmart Supercenters all located close to Highway 84 and serving the south, central, and northern sections of the city. A few truck stops sit aside I-35 and also are roughly located near the southern, central, and northern regions of the city.

Exploring the City of Waco

The city has so much to offer that you may not have time for everything when renting a motorhome in Waco. Given the infamous events that occurred here in 1993, one of the places many visitors stop first is at the Branch Davidian Memorial at the compound. Some of the tours of the compound are run by survivors of the events, giving a first-hand perspective of how things unfolded.

Another popular attraction is the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum. As a statewide law enforcement agency, the Texas Rangers have played a significant role in its history and this museum commemorates their service. For more artistically-minded museum patrons there’s the Armstrong Browning Library and Museum. Baylor University has dedicated this museum to Victorian poets Robert and Elizabeth Barrett Browning, and it’s also home to the world’s largest secular collection of stained glass.

Want something quirkier? The Dr. Pepper Museum uses interactive exhibits and thousands of pieces of memorabilia to tell the history of not only Dr. Pepper but of soft drinks in general. Its affiliated Free Enterprise Institute uses the soda industry as an example to educate students on the American economic system. Perhaps you’d prefer an adult beverage though? Balcones Distilling was named one of the country’s best whiskey distilleries by USA Today, and their facilities are open to visitors and offer tours and tastings.

Getting Outside near Waco

Your Waco travel trailer rental gives you the freedom to explore nature and get outside the confines of the city, too. Fortunately, though, you won’t have to go too far to find some great outdoor activities.

For something close to town, check out Cameron Park. It’s one of the state’s biggest municipal parks and has a number of hiking and cycling paths, as well as a disc golf course. Also nearby is Lake Waco; the city’s namesake lake offers swimming, boating, and fishing opportunities, as well as hiking and cycling around its shores. Brazos Park East is also not far away, and although the park isn’t very big, it has scenic views over the river, boat ramps, horseshoe pits, and a disc golf course.

You might also want to check out the Waco Mammoth National Monument. This National Park Service-managed museum offers tours every half hour to teach visitors about the Columbian mammoth fossils that have been discovered there. Learn about the dig site there and the painstaking work conducted by paleontologists to uncover the fossils.
