Information About Ogden, UT
Forty miles to the north of Salt Lake City, tucked in to the foothills of the Wasatch Mountains, is spectacular Ogden, Utah. This majestic gateway to the higher elevations is an easy choice to make when it comes to renting an RV. Originally known as Fort Buenaventura, Ogden reinvented itself to become a tourism hub while still honoring its roots as an old trading post and wild west town. The incredibly refurbished and colorful historic buildings lining the main streets of town tend to charm visitors to the area, especially with the gigantic mountains looming in the background.
Ogden has many things to do and see, and the Frontrunner commuter rail gives everyone easy, instantaneous access to the capital city, and other suburbs and cities like Orem and Provo, too. The town is located at the junction of Interstates 84 and 15, making it convenient to travel around the area. When you decide to book an RV in Ogden, you will be opening yourself up to a wide range of experiences that cannot be found in many other places. Between the nearby ski and snowboard mountains, the Great Salt Lake, gorgeous old buildings, or the many tantalizing restaurants, Ogden is a great place to rent an RV. Ogden is also a satellite location for the world-famous Sundance Film Festival, which brings many people in each summer.
Experience the Sites and Scenery
Utah is known for being one of the most exhilarating and naturally beautiful states in the entire country. From the high mountains to the low-lying deserts, or the red, winding river-sculpted canyons that carve through the Martian-looking landscape, there are endless possibilities when it comes to outdoor recreation.
Ogden is a perfect example of a city seamlessly blending itself into the surrounding nature. With its extensive, well-maintained trail system, people are free to explore both the town and the nearby Wasatch Mountains by foot or by bicycle. Above Ogden, you can also rock climb on the magnificent quartzite cliffs that overlook the area.
Directly to the west of the downtown area, you won’t have to go far in your Ogden camper rental to visit Ogden Bay Waterfowl Management Area. This protected area is home to pelicans, snowy plovers, peregrine falcons, and even bald eagles, so don’t forget your binoculars. Antelope Island State Park is another incredible stretch of nature that shouldn’t be missed, as it offers visitors a perfect view of the Great Salt Lake, the famous lake with high salt content, making it mostly uninhabitable for most aquatic animals.
Wasatch-Cache National Forest is a little bit farther away on the other side of the Wasatch Mountains, but don’t let this discourage you from visiting in the Ogden RV rental by owner. With a whopping seven total wilderness areas, and staggering 1.6 million acres, you can forge your own path and go discover the amazing backcountry for yourself.
About five hours’ drive to the south, Moab, Utah might be a bit of a drive, but the town is right in the midst of four of the country’s best national parks. Canyonlands, Bryce Canyon, Arches, and Zion National Parks will provide you with breathtaking views and endless opportunities for recreation if you commit to trekking there in the Ogden motorhome rental.
There are so many cool things to see in Ogden, mainly due to the fact that it is the oldest non-indigenous, permanent settlement in the state of Utah. There are seemingly endless amounts of museums and historical sites in the area that you will hardly find the time to see them all. Fort Buenaventura State Park is the exact site of the original settlement in town and contains a massive reconstructed fort, cabins, stockades, and other old buildings to help visitors envision life in the past. You can go on a lengthy educational tour and visit the Utah State Railroad Museum, the Hill Aerospace Museum, the Treehouse Museum, and the Ogden Union Station. All have incredible exhibits showcasing the various aspects that form the unique identity of Ogden.
Fortunately, most of the best sights in town can be found on the exciting and historic 25th Street, a stretch of town that has a wide variety of dining and entertainment to suit you. Just outside of town you can also hit the slopes at Snowbasin Mountain, where you can cruise through powder from October through April while you breathe in the cool mountain air. With so much to do, it is really up to you to determine what you want to do when you rent an RV in Ogden.
Where to Park It
There is plenty of space in sparsely populated Utah, and campgrounds and RV parks are a dime a dozen. Century RV Park is smack dab in the middle of town and is, therefore, pretty convenient if you hope to stay in civilization for the duration of your trip. This park has many amenities that you might hope to see on vacation, such as a hot tub and pool, basketball and volleyball courts, a pavilion for hosting events, and many more. It is also within walking distance to many of the area’s premier sightseeing attractions.
Anderson Cove Campground gets you out a bit farther into nature and away from the city. The campground is 10 miles east of Ogden and sits neatly on the Pineview Reservoir and features a beach and a boat launch.
Brigham City/Perry South KOA is just north of town and provides an excellent location for people renting an RV in Ogden, UT. Positioned at the base of Willard Peak amidst many fruit orchards, this little nature oasis is a fantastic place to escape for some peace and quiet.
