This area covers about 45,000 acres and is part of the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve. It is managed to preserve the threatened Mojave Desert tortoise and other plant and animal species that are at risk. The area includes two wilderness areas, the Red Cliffs Recreation Area, heritage public use sites, and 130 miles of non-motorized multi-use trails. Other things to do and see include Jurassic-era dinosaur tracks, a prehistoric archaeological site, and a rehabilitated 19th-century Mormon pioneer residence.Quail Creek State Park is also well worth a visit when you rent a camper near WillowWind RV Park. Coyotes, rabbits, desert tortoises, bald eagles, great horned owls, tarantulas, and many other animals make their homes here. Quail Creek has some of the warmest waters in the state and is stocked with largemouth bass, bluegill, rainbow trout, crappie, and bullhead catfish. Beaches are developed, and modern restrooms are on-site. Kayaks, paddleboards, water carpets, and personal watercraft are available for rent. Other recreational activities include hiking, biking, swimming, scuba diving, beach volleyball, and nature viewing and photography.

Exploring the Area
