The Great Outdoors

While you're visiting the Olympic Peninsula, you won't have to look further than Olympic National Park to find your outdoor adventures. This national treasure is quite simply immense and could occupy your entire vacation seeing everything that there is to see within it. Begin your excursion by aiming your RV rental towards the Olympic National Park Visitor Center in Port Angeles, where you can obtain information and have questions answered. Continue heading south into the park on Hurricane Ridge Road; the Hurricane Ridge Visitor Center is about 30 miles into the park. At this center, you can expect to see exhibits demonstrating the various habitats that exist on Olympic Mountain and access a snack bar, a gift shop, and short trails heading out from the center in multiple directions. The trails can have snowbanks as late as May, so be sure to dress appropriately.If you want to treat yourself while RV camping here, consider heading for Olympic Hot Springs, a short drive and even shorter hike from Olympic Peninsula / Port Angeles KOA. There are more than a dozen seepages where you can test the water or even take a dip; temperatures range from lukewarm to more than 130 degrees Fahrenheit. These hot springs are not managed, so you should exercise caution if you decide to use them. You will probably want to keep your camper rental nearby so you can clean up afterward.If you're looking for something outdoorsy that is more cultivated and less rugged, head east past Sequim and continue on to Miller Peninsula State Park. This park was developed and designed with the help of public input and has a number of looping trails that can be combined for shorter or longer hikes. The trails eventually lead to a beach where you can listen to the surf crashing into the shore; on a clear day, you may even be able to see Mount Baker. One of the trails leads through a lush ravine and around a pond; pay attention to signage as some areas near or off of the trail may be private property.

Exploring The Area

Search for an RV in Clallam County, and you can find the motorhome rental that is perfectly suited to your preferences. Once you've had your fill of the outdoors, it's time to start checking out the indoor scene, and Port Townsend is a good place to start. The city has an Art-Deco museum, a museum of art and history, and the Northwest Maritime Center, which houses exhibits of wooden boats and various maritime memorabilia. It has an attached store that sells maritime charts and clothing, books, boat fittings, and much more (such as coffee and pastries). The city has a thriving restaurant scene; most of the venues serve American-style food, although there are a few international cuisines on hand.Head in the other direction if you're seeking something small and quieter; Joyce is a small town on the way to the northernmost tip of not only the peninsula but the country too. It lies on the Strait of Juan de Fuca and has access to scenic beach areas, canoeing and kayaking, and other water-based activities. There are fewer restaurants here, but they are locally owned and operated and serve delicious comfort food in relaxed surroundings.The Olympic Peninsula is where you will experience the grandness of the outdoors and the comforts of small and large towns; Olympic Peninsula / Port Angeles KOA is where you can begin it all.
