A half hour's drive separates Seattle from the tiny bedroom community of Woodinville, Washington. The town takes its name from Susan and Ira Woodin, a couple that moved down from Seattle to build their own homestead on the banks of the Sammamish River. The area has been in constant use for over a thousand years, occupied by the Sammamish indigenous people until recently. After the Woodin family moved to their new home, a town slowly developed around them. Over the years, Woodinville has relied upon timber harvesting and agriculture, but now most of its residents commute to work in the Seattle area. Despite first being settled in 1871, Woodinville was only incorporated in 1993 in response to the looming threat of annexation by neighboring Bothell.

Woodinville remains on the periphery of the Seattle metropolitan area, benefiting from its proximity to both city and countryside. When you book an RV in Woodinville, you are never far from the San Juan Islands, the Puget Sound, the glorious coastlines of Washington, and several of the country’s best national parks and forests. With world-class natural beauty and access to Seattle’s public transport network, Woodinville truly is a magnificent place to book your next trip and rent an RV.

Discover Woodinville

Natural Beauty

The state of Washington has had an affinity for the great outdoors for as long as it has been in existence, and perhaps no other state can boast the bountiful beauty it has. Woodinville is located near plenty of state parks, forests, national parks, and public recreation areas so lots of people like to rent an RV and plan small road trips when they arrive in town. There are even a few excellent parks in town on the Sammamish River, like Wilmot Gateway Park and Woodin Creek Park, giving locals and visitors a relaxing place to gather their thoughts and delight in the comforting grasp of nature.

Lake Sammamish State Park is a fabulous place to bring your Woodinville camper rental, with fantastic views of Lake Sammamish. The park has a wide range of facilities including several soccer fields, playgrounds, softball fields, two swimming beaches, restrooms, and a campground where guests may opt to camp when they rent an RV nearby. You can also hike around the park's many trails, or use the lake for boating and fishing. Mount Pilchuck State Park is located to the northeast of Woodinville, home to the legendary Mount Pilchuck itself. This prominent geological feature is hard to miss, jutting from the ground with its snowcapped peak. The park was once an alpine skiing area but was closed down after years of disuse. Now you can still hike or snowshoe around the park or up to the top of Mount Pilchuck itself.

There are a few incredible national parks within a few hours’ drive of Woodinville, but as the crow flies, Olympic National Park is the closest to town. You can drive around the Puget Sound to Olympic National Park in your Woodinville RV rental, but taking the ferry across the water is a great way to shave off a few hours of driving. Olympic National Park has towering mountains belonging to the Olympic Mountain Range, most of which can actually be seen from Seattle on clear days. Mount Olympus is the largest in the range and named for the mythical mountain of the gods in Greek mythology. You can camp out in the park, hike, explore the rugged coastal areas, or try to climb and conquer the treacherous Mount Olympus.

RV Friendly

There are several options near town when you need a place to stay in your Woodinville motorhome rental. Lake Pleasant RV Park is one of the places to consider, with scenic, secluded, grassy camping sites. Thunderbird RV & Camping Resort is out in the country, offering you a chance to get away from the city completely. There is a large swimming lake with boat ramps, a pool, a spa, playgrounds, sports courts, a mini golf course, a clubhouse, and a game room among other things.

Tall Chief RV & Camping Resort is very similar to Thunderbird but is south of town in Fall City. The park has many of the same amenities, like mini golf, swimming pools, spas, game rooms, and more. There are loads of other places to check out if you are looking for something different, and state parks can always do the trick if you don’t know where to look.

City Attractions

Woodinville is a small town with a lively downtown area, but it is nothing like the busy, hectic streets of Seattle. You can comfortably stroll around town window shopping at trendy boutiques, grab a bite to eat at some local diners, or do as the locals do: try some good old-fashioned craft beer. You may notice when you arrive in Woodinville that there are plenty of small breweries and wineries because much like nature, delicious alcohol holds a special place in the hearts of Washingtonians. You can even visit the whiskey distillery and try locally distilled alcohol in yet another form.

If you are looking for more urban adventures, you might need to head into Seattle, which is not a problem if you use the commuter rail to connect you to the city. Pike Place Fish Market is an open-air fish market in downtown Seattle along the water’s edge. You can buy amazingly fresh seafood and see the fishmongers tossing the fish to one another in famous fashion. The Space Needle is the most iconic feature on the metro area’s skyline and a fun place to visit too. You can take an elevator to the observation deck and see unbeatable views of the city as well as the Olympic Mountains and Mount Rainier in the distance.
