Recommended RV Campgrounds and Attractions around Milwaukee, WI
Visit the River Bend Nature Center during your visit to Racine, Wisconsin. Rent a canoe or kayak and take yourself on an adventure on the Root River. Your lifejacket and paddle are included with the rental, so you really don't need any equipment of your own. Hike or walk the trails to get a sense of the grandeur of the woods, the river, and nature itself. The Nature Center frequently runs programs for kids, and offers pancake breakfasts on Sundays in March where they serve their very own maple syrup. Plenty of geocaches are hidden around the trail system, so bring your GPS and play along! This beautiful site has served as the backdrop for many weddings and photo shoots. Release your inner Robin Hood by taking an archery class, or sign up for a beginner wood carving course. Be sure to check their calendar for one of the special events offered throughout the year. The River Bend Nature Center will provide the setting for a wonderful day exploring the riverside.
A full holiday in a single destination may seem like a tall order, but that?s what can be expected from Happy Acres Kampground in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The park is suitable for those who plan on having a great RV camping trip, as it offers a lot of options for RV owners in terms of their camp sites, such as the electric output, and whether they require a grill and fire pit. Guests are welcome to have company over, and visitors will be charged a daily or overnight rate, depending on their needs. The park offers planned activities, mini-golf, horseshoes, volleyball, basketball, playgrounds, bingo, jumping pillow, large and small fishing ponds, swimming pool, tenting area, pedal boat rentals, wooded nature trails, and much more. The park is also located near major routes and other attractions if you happen to have energy left after all that. The park offers a beautiful natural setting around the pond, offering peace and relaxation.
Illinois Beach State Park just north of Waukegan, Illinois, is a campground with spacious sites! This state park has some dog-friendly hiking trails, and plenty of other walking and biking trails. The long beach areas on Lake Michigan have some sandy areas, and some areas perfect for rock collectors. Many of the rocks have crystals in them and are very smooth from the constant action of the waves. Most campsites have some shade, the washrooms are functional and shower houses have great water pressure. There is a hotel with a restaurant, so you can still eat if you don't feel like cooking. The sites are asphalt and there is a dumping station. The park is very close to the town of Zion, as well as not far from Waukegan, so you are never far from grocery stores or services, even though it may not feel like it as you listen to the waves lapping and the crickets chirping.
Cliffside Park Campgrounds in Racine, Wisconsin will surprise you with the sheer amount of open space! This clean campground boasts great hiking trails and spectacular vistas. The modern facilities are well-kept. The sites are large and level with lots of trees and grass. This peaceful place has many simple pleasures to indulge your senses. Wake up in this cozy campground to the pastoral sounds of the chickens next door. Take a leisurely walk along the miles of hiking trails. Stand still and close your eyes as you drink in the scent of the air coming off the fresh water, or listen to the songs of the birds who nest in the cliffs. The views of the lake are truly splendid; try and catch a sunrise. A local road will take you down to the water, but Cliffside Park's quiet, contemplative views will give you time to just breathe, and enjoy the legendary woods of Wisconsin. Be sure to take the side trip to see Wind Point Lighthouse.
The rugged beauty of the Kettle Moraine State Forest makes Waukesha County a haven for campers. Pull in with an RV for a restful camping trip with the comforts of home, load everything on your back and head to a secluded walk-in site, or bring horses for a frontier-style camp out, complete with tether post and riding trails. RV Accommodations include pull-thru sites, big rig access, 50 amp, electric, clean restrooms and showers. There are a variety of sites, most very secluded and private. One of the best areas is the outer loop close to Ottawa Lake. Though the lake is small, it has a clean, sandy beach and dogs are allowed to swim at one end of the lake. Several sites are actually on the lake. However, these sites are all on a steep embankment and none of them has electricity. The park's electric sites are currently a mix of 30A and 50A. Kettle Moraine State Forest has numerous hiking trails to enjoy.
