The Great Outdoors

Alabama is as outdoors-focused as you can be, with hundreds of state parks, public recreation areas, fishing spots, hunting areas, and hiking trails. No matter what time of year you visit, you can rent an RV and find somewhere scenic to relax and take part in a variety of recreation activities. Lake Lurleen State Park is very close to Tuscaloosa, named for Alabama’s first female governor, Lurleen Wallace. Lake Lurleen is at the center of most of the park’s activities, and a fantastic place to go swimming, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and boating. The lake is encircled by a series of hiking and biking trails to ensure ease of access to the lake. Furthermore, there are nearly 100 campsites to choose from when you bring your Tuscaloosa camper rental for a short excursion.

South of Birmingham, Oak Mountain State Park is one of the largest state parks in the state. This large park was established back in 1927, and ever since, it has been one of the best places for city dwellers to get out and reconnect with nature. There are over 25 miles of hiking and biking trails found throughout the park, along with beaches, swimming areas, fishing centers, hunting areas, mountain biking trails, an 18-hole golf course, and lots of space to camp with your Tuscaloosa motorhome rental. You can even visit the interpretive center or the nature center at the park for some valuable knowledge about the local ecosystem.

There are a few stunning national forests in Alabama that you can see when you take a small road trip to other sections of the state. Bankhead National Forest to the north is a lovely wilderness area known as the “Land of a Thousand Waterfalls.” You can journey through the woods in search of cascading falls or hike through valleys and dense forest groves. There is ample space to hunt or fish, go horseback riding, or camp at Bankhead National Forest, and a large collection of archeological sites and old petroglyphs to see too. Tuskegee National Forest over on the other side of Montgomery and Talladega National Forest by Talladega are two of the other places to check out when you rent an RV and need some ideas. There is much to do at these incredible nature parks, and camping by the lake is a great perk of visiting.

RV Parks

RV parks aren’t as abundant as you might have hoped, but securing a space to stay in your Tuscaloosa camper rental is hardly a challenge. Candy Mountain RV Park is an option, with large open camping spaces and tons of riverfront where you can fish. Here you can splash around in the park's pool during the hot summertime.

Cherokee Campground is another place to consider, with laundry facilities, restrooms, hot showers, wireless internet, cable television, and a large fishing pond.
