About an hour and twenty minutes northeast of Madera is the famed Yosemite National Park. Within the chain of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, this cornerstone of American wilderness is one of the most frequented national parks in the country, and it isn’t surprising why. The striking granite mountains, the stunning valley views, and the calm serenity of the forest offer adventurers and nature lovers a retreat into wilderness that is often so desperately needed. You can jump on one of the guided tours or choose from the more than 750 miles of hiking trails and explore the park at your leisure.

If you’re looking for something a little more off the beaten path, just an hour northeast of town is the Sierra National Forest. Here, you can hike to the Rancheria Falls, along the Pacific Crest Trail, and even partake in some boating on Nellie Lake. While often overlooked by its northern neighbor, Yosemite, the Sierra National Forest still makes for the perfect day trip for nature enthusiasts.

If you’re willing to drive your Madera motorhome rental a little further, about two and a half hours to the west you’ll arrive at the coast of the Pacific Ocean in Monterey, California. The sandy beaches and clear blue water make the perfect backdrop for a relaxing day. Unfortunately, there are not many RV parks geared toward visitors in the Madera area. However, there are several places just south, in Fresno, that are wonderful places to stay.

One such place is the New Horizons Mobile/RV Park. Visitors will have access to electricity, WiFi, garbage dumps, laundry facilities, and also a pool and a recreation room. Located on the northeast side of town, New Horizons is only about 20 minutes away from Madera.

If you enjoyed visiting the Sierra National Forest, then maybe the High Sierra RV & Mobile Park, just west of the forest, is where you want to park your Madera RV rental. Sites have electricity and water, plus WiFi, laundry, picnic areas, and showers. On top of that, you will be graced with the stunning Sierra Mountains in the not-so-far distance.

Even though it probably isn’t the biggest city you’ve ever been visited, there is still plenty to see and do in Madera. If you want to learn more about the area, you can spend time at the Madera County Historical Society. Housed inside an old courthouse, the museum teaches visitors the history of the area through stories and artifacts.

Even though it isn’t fully considered northern California, there are still several wineries in the area around Madera. Many of these wineries offer tours and wine tastings to let you experience not only the process of winemaking, but also enjoy the end result.
