The city of Caldwell, Idaho, was created in 1883 as a result of the construction of the Oregon Short Line Railroad after Boise was rejected as part of the railway line due to its steep slope. It was named after Alexander Caldwell, a senator from Kansas. Although it started partially due to the gold rush of the time, it has since grown as a result of its being a center for agricultural processing, commercial retail, and education. When you rent an RV in Caldwell you’ll easily notice the grain elevators that stand out like solitary giants against the prairie skyline.

Caldwell is the seat of Canyon County and is close to the neighboring cities of Boise, Nampa, and Meridian. It is home to the College of Idaho. Founded in 1891, it’s one of the oldest educational institutions in the state.

Public transportation in Caldwell is managed by Valley Regional Transit, whose routes connect Caldwell to Nampa, Garden City, and Boise. As Caldwell is not big in size, there are several taxi companies that can help guests to move about the city; tourists who want to move about and perhaps beyond the city (any of the cities) can choose from among three car rental agencies that will provide them a little more freedom.

Gassing up your RV rental near Caldwell won't be a problem, as there are a plentiful number of gas stations throughout the city and even farther out of the cities on the highways. Grocery shopping should also be relatively easy as there is an abundant number of stores; Walmart has two outlets in Caldwell, with parking lots that will accommodate your Caldwell motorhome rental.

Discover Caldwell

The Great Outdoors

Caldwell has a few golf courses; the Purple Sage course has several water hazards, to make play interesting. The city is host to a wide array of farms, at least one of which is a petting zoo of sorts; watch for the capuchin, who can be a real monkey (making off with jewelry and anything else he can get his hands on). Another of the farms is a fully operational chicken hatchery, and yet another specializes in providing dairy products to local businesses and consumers. Book an RV in Caldwell and you can bring it with you to the farms during the day, purchasing their produce and food items to prepare in your own private kitchen, right outside their front door.

Caldwell has at least one active distillery and multiple wineries to boast about. Many of the wineries offer tastings. The vineyards are mostly family run and many of them have been in existence for a long time, so a traveler here can expect to sample some very fine products.

Whittenberger Planetarium is located on the grounds of the College of Idaho and offers nighttime events that are fun for both adults and children.

Those who would like to have a little more adrenaline in their fun can take a helicopter ride to view the surrounding countryside. Those who want to have a completely unimpeded view can sign up to take skydiving lessons. Better yet, park your Caldwell camper rental near the jump site and your family can sit in comfort while they watch as you cross yet another item off of your personal bucket list.

RV Parks

There are a couple RV parks within Caldwell's city limits, including Canyon Springs RV Resort, and Ambassador RV Resort. Additional parks are located just minutes away in Nampa, Leah's Landing Senior RV Park (guests must be 55+), Garrity Boulevard RV Park and Decoy RV Park. Decoy RV Park is within walking distance of Lake Lowell, while Leah's and Garrity are near Lions Park and West Park. Canyon Springs is also within walking distance of a small lake. Farther to the west, Rivers Edge RV Park and Snake River RV Resort both sit right next to Snake River, although they are quite distant from each other.

Exploring The City

Hailing as a representation of its pioneering days, Caldwell hosts its annual Caldwell Night Rodeo every August to keep that pioneering spirit alive. In July it is host to the Canyon County Fair, which ropes in spectators from all across Idaho. The fair offers RV parking; visitors who are parked farther out in the lots can make use of a shuttle that will take them from their vehicle to the fair entrance and back again.

When you book an RV rental in Caldwell, you’ll find an amazing array of cuisines available in its restaurants. Foodies will be able to choose from pizzerias, Mexican and Salvadoran outlets, steak and seafood restaurants, American and Chinese menus, Asian fusion, diners (a staple of any American city), barbecue, brunch, and all-day breakfast items, and Hawaiian.
