Tourists arriving in Santa Fe will first notice the unique architecture that is symbolic of New Mexico. Originally a Spanish territory, Santa Fe is now the state capital of New Mexico and is the highest elevated and oldest state capital in the United States; it was established by Spanish settlers in 1610. Along with Espanola and Edgewood, Santa Fe is a part of Santa Fe County and is the seat of this region. Farther out, nearby towns and cities worth exploring include Albuquerque, Taos and Roswell.

Santa Fe is well known as an arts mecca. When you book an RV in Santa Fe, expect to be able to immerse yourself in painting, pottery, architecture and other art forms; perusing art galleries could easily fill an afternoon or an entire day. Famous artists from this area include the painter Georgia O'Keefe and George RR Martin, author of the Game of Thrones novel series. Information on current arts events can easily be found in the Santa Fe New Mexican newspaper, which publishes Pasatiempo, a calendar and commentary on the local arts scene. Other sources include The Magazine and an alternative weekly newspaper, the Santa Fe Reporter.

Other attractions to this city include music, dance, opera, museums and sports. The Great Outdoors

Perhaps the best way to begin exploring with an RV rental in Santa Fe is to take the Atalaya trail to the top of Atalaya Mountain, where visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the city below. While outside of the city, guests should also visit the Mine Shaft Tavern, 30 minutes south on Highway NM-14. This raucous establishment in Madrid is situated near the mineshaft that once employed Madrid's population, and was also featured in the David Bowie movie, The Man Who Fell to Earth.

Bandelier National Monument, on Highway NM-4 and south of Las Alamos as the crow flies, is a protected site of petroglyphs and dwellings carved out of a cliff face of soft rock. It was once home to the Anasazi culture that dates back 11,000 years. It is also a good destination for camping and hiking, offering a variety of short and longer trails of various difficulty.

To the east of Santa Fe, guests can experience American history first hand at Fort Union, the largest 19th-century military fort in New Mexico. The adobe ruins, located in a prairie valley, are a photographers dream (even non-photographers will want to take a picture or two). The site offers a variety of activities, and children can earn a Junior Ranger badge to take home with them.

Pinon RV Park can be found near the intersection of Veterans Memorial Highway and Canam Highway, while Santa Fe Skies RV Park is located on Browncastle Ranch Rd.

Exploring The City

At the end of a long, hot and tiring day, nothing says relaxation like a spa and massage; Santa Fe does not lack in these. Follow a treatment with dinner in town at any of Santa Fe's fine eateries. Enjoy an outdoor dinner on a rooftop patio, or a scenic skyline meal on the sixth and top floor of the La Fonda Hotel, Santa Fe's version of a skyscraper.

A satisfying dinner should be followed by a stroll down Canyon Road, exploring its gift and book shops, and selection of chocolate retailers (there are several). Handcrafted jewelry is on display and visitors can have a cowboy hat custom made to fit them by a seasoned and legitimate cowboy.
