Just 12 miles from downtown Portland, Gresham has consistently been considered one of the best up-and-coming places to live or visit in the state. This former farming community, with roots going back to the old pioneer days, is the fourth largest city in the state of Oregon. It was first settled in 1851 by James and Jackson Powell but was not incorporated until 1905. The settlement petitioned the federal government for a post office to further legitimize its claim as a city in 1884, and local residents even promised to name the town after Postmaster General Walter Gresham, a promise that was obviously fulfilled.

The lovely small-town feel is evident when you stroll down the main avenues of downtown Gresham and visit one of the many bustling restaurants or sidewalk cafes. Gresham is conveniently located near Portland and is serviced by the TriMet’s bus system as well as the MAX Light Rail Blue Line which leads to the city from one of Gresham’s many stations and stops. Gresham is also easily accessed by means of driving on Interstate 84, or by air utilizing the city of Portland's exceptional international airport. Between the small-town charm, the proximity to Portland, or the incredible natural beauty, you should begin searching for RV rentals in Gresham, Oregon now!

Natural Beauty

The city of Gresham will entertain and amaze you, but the nearby nature reserves, national forests, waterfalls, and mountains will exceed your wildest expectations. With the many parks within the city limits and Gresham’s collection of bicycle and walking trails like the 40-Mile Loop Trail or the Springwater Corridor, a stay here in the Gresham camper rental unlocks access to small-town charm, peaceful parks and vast surrounding forests.

Sandy River Delta is just north of town on the banks of the Columbia River. This amazing pet-friendly park is great for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, fishing, and bird watching in its many blackberry brambles or gorgeous meadows. Sandy River Delta’s 1,400 acres are now considered part of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. Adjacent to the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area is Mount Hood National Forest and the spectacular Mount Hood itself, a permanent fixture of the Portland metro area’s skyline. Mount Hood is a potentially active stratovolcano within the Cascade Mountains and is known to be Oregon’s tallest mountain. The snow-packed peak is great in wintertime for downhill skiing and snowboarding, while the national forest surrounding it is well over a million acres and attracts 4.4 million visitors annually who come to witness its ethereal beauty. Don’t forget to check out fabulous Multnomah Falls, the iconic waterfall and bridge combination seen in many pictures.

If you decide to head towards the lush Oregon coastline in your Gresham motorhome rental, drive west past Tillamook until you reach the Pacific Ocean. The Tillamook State Forest is a 364,000-acre park dominated by mighty Douglas-fir trees and is one of the wettest places in the country. Part of the forest lies on the coast which makes for some incredible scenery.

Gifford Pinchot National Forest is another wonderful place to bring your Gresham camper rental in search of stunning natural beauty. With 1.32 million acres, Gifford Pinchot National Forest decorates the western slopes of the Cascade Mountains with all sorts of old growth forest and lush vegetation. Mount Saint Helens National Volcanic Monument is included within the boundaries of the forest, and the active stratovolcano has been mostly quiet since 1980 when it blew its top and became the scene of the most notorious volcanic eruption in modern American history. Really, you can head in any direction with the Gresham rental RV and you will find amazing scenery.
