Albertville is a city in Marshall County, Alabama, in an area that was first settled by non-natives around the 1850s. It was named after an early settler and city leader from Georgia, Thomas A. Albert. It was incorporated in 1891 and granted a post office in 1910. The city was named “the Fire Hydrant Capital of the World” due to the presence of a fire hydrant manufacturer, the Mueller Company, and has a chrome fire hydrant in front of the Albertville Chamber of Commerce to commemorate the production of its one-millionth fire hydrant. Albertville's economy is also reliant on an automotive parts plant, several poultry processing plants, and a wholesale grocery distribution center. The city achieved a level of fame for being mentioned on two episodes of This American Life (a radio show and podcast) and for the mock winter games it hosted in 1992; the city's winter games were held at the same time as the Olympic Winter Games that were held in Albertville, France.

Book an RV in Marshall County, and you will have your choice from amongst a fleet of RV units perfectly suited to an Alabama vacation. Consider expanding your experience by visiting a few other nearby communities. Huntsville has a close association with U.S. space missions, the space shuttle, and international space station, earning it the designation “The Rocket City.” Scottsboro is where you will find the Unclaimed Baggage Center, a sales center for airline luggage that has been unclaimed or deemed undeliverable. Fort Payne is home to the band Alabama as well as the band's fan club and a museum dedicated to the group. Lincoln is host to the Talladega Superspeedway and the International Motorsports Hall of Fame. Your Albertville travel trailer rental is your invitation to experience this culturally unique area.

The Great Outdoors

Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center was established in 1938 by order of President Franklin D. Roosevelt in order to create a refuge and breeding ground for migrating birds and other wildlife species. It was originally a hydro-electric impoundment, and the project was an experiment, the first ever refuge on such an impoundment created to see if migratory birds could be attracted there. The area has bottomland and upland tree stands, swamps and backwater embayments, and several other natural ecosystems. The park has a cooperative farming program with agricultural fields providing food sources to the resident wildlife, and caves that can be explored. Interpretive and educational programs are offered, and guests can enjoy viewing the landscape and its inhabitants, hiking, bicycling and boating, and other activities. Fishing and hunting are allowed with the appropriate licenses.

Bankhead National Forest is a multi-purpose outdoor recreation area with several distinct areas scattered throughout, each offering a combination of activities. Hikers have their choice of miles upon miles of trails to choose from, and there are several rustic campgrounds with water and electrical outlets. Hunting is allowed, and hunters have access to designated hunter’s camps while non-hunters can primitive camp in the general forest and wilderness; all visitors should wear bright clothing and exercise caution during hunting season. Fishing and swimming are also popular activities in the forest. Park your Albertville camper rental nearby, and you can retire to comfort when your activities are concluded.

Little River Canyon National Preserve is an outdoor recreation area that is open to the public year-round. One of its unique features is that Little River flows on top of Lookout Mountain for almost its entire journey. The preserve has canyon rims, sandstone cliffs and bluffs, waterfalls and pools, and forested uplands all providing a variety of possible activities. Guests can enjoy swimming and whitewater paddling, rock climbing, and scenic drives through two roadways that dissect the park. Hunting and fishing are allowed with the appropriate licenses.

RV Parks

There are numerous RV parks and campgrounds in and around Albertville, and some of them may have mobile homes. Your Albertville RV trailer rental is all you will need to guarantee a relaxing and enjoyable vacation no matter where you decide to stay.

Crawford RV Park is a child and pet-friendly RV campground that is open all year long and has access to nearby Lake Guntersville. The park has laundry facilities, cable TV, and wireless internet. Individual sites can be rented by the day, week, or month and have full hookups, while some sites have pull-through access. There is also an abundance of tree cover providing shade and grass areas.

Exploring The City

There are a number of urban parks that visitors should take time to see, but the best place to begin visiting Albertville is the Alabama Constitution Village, an interactive museum with staff dressed up in period costumes and demonstrating how cooking and other daily activities were done at the time. Some nearby notable attractions are a Roman Catholic shrine built on a former soybean farm and the U.S Space & Rocket Center with interactive challenge exhibits, a Mars climbing wall and some museum simulators (to experience space travel first hand). Don't forget to get some photos with your Albertville motorhome rental in the foreground or to take it for a spin.

There are some interesting restaurants to choose from when dinnertime arrives. One of them is a seafood venue that is open for lunch and dinner and serves Southern styles dishes. The service is good and the portions large; guests dining here for the first time should try the catfish combo. Ask to have your leftovers wrapped up and take them back to your Albertville luxury RV rental for a late-night snack; this is what vacation living is all about.
