Sometimes you just need to slow down a little bit and stop to smell the roses. What better place to do it than the Allentown Rose Garden with its 1.3-mile loop trail through the flower gardens. Quakerwood Campground, Homestead Family Campgrounds, Little Red Barn Campground, and Tohicken Family Campground are all located around fifteen miles south of Allentown, near Nockamixon State Park. The reservoir inside the park is a popular place to go hiking and swimming during the summer, so these campgrounds are a good choice if you’d like to spend more time outside during your trip.

The closest Walmarts are seven miles west of the city (there’s also a Costco nearby) and in Lehighton, 30 miles north of Allentown; gather your supplies before heading to the park. The best place to fuel up and use the RV dump is at the Allentown Service Plaza a few miles east of the city on I-476.

Being one of larger cities in the state, RV rentals in Allentown, Pennsylvania make an excellent choice as the city has quite a bit to offer when it comes to attractions. The city is home to the headquarters of one of America’s most storied big rig manufacturers, Mack Trucks. If you love trucks and classic automobiles, you’ll surely want to make a stop at their historical museum. There’s a lot of great memorabilia to see and a tour of all their old truck models is completely free. The America on Wheels Museum has even more cars, trucks, and even an impressive bicycle collection if you’re interested in even more transport-related history.

To get an understanding of local history, you’ll want to visit the Lehigh Valley Heritage Museum.  The 30,000 square foot museum houses some of the best exhibits focused on the Pennsylvania Dutch culture, Native American history, and the significance of mining to the area’s economy. Another great place to take in some history is the Liberty Bell Museum. You would probably assume such a museum would be located in Philadelphia, home of the Liberty Bell, but during the Revolutionary War, the Liberty Bell along with many other bells were transported to the Lehigh Valley for safekeeping in case Philadelphia was overrun. Today, the museum has exhibits on a wide variety of subjects in addition to the story of securing the Liberty Bell.

While Allentown doesn’t have any major league sports teams it does have the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, Iron Pigs, and United teams, development league teams for the National Hockey League, Major League Baseball and American Soccer League, respectively. Tickets to their games are significantly less expensive than ones for pro matches, so it’s a great way to bring the whole family to a sporting event.
