The small town of Bel Air can be found about 30 miles outside of Baltimore in northern Maryland. The town has reinvented itself several times and has undergone many name changes before finally settling on “Bell Aire” and later Bel Air in an attempt to draw more residents and appeal to others as an upscale community. Though small in size, the appeal of Bel Air reaches far and wide throughout the state of Maryland.

The town is historically significant, existing in one of the oldest former colonies of the British Empire. The centuries-old buildings charm visitors and serve as elegant reminders that when you rent an RV in Bel Air, there are lots of things to see and learn. U.S Route 1 and Interstate 95 make it easy to get in and out of Bel Air in order to visit other local cities or natural areas. Susquehanna State Park is a large state park nearby and is one of the must-see outdoors features to tour when you rent an RV near Bel Air. This lovely space out near the town of Havre De Grace along the Susquehanna River overlooks the water and the Millard E Tydings Memorial Bridge that spans it. Fifteen miles of trails, a museum, and several historic buildings headline the many attractions at Susquehanna State Park. Elk Neck State Park is located on the opposite side of the Chesapeake Bay and has scenic beaches, camping sites, and a park store for campers to get supplies.

Shenandoah National Park is more than worth the three-hour drive if you want to cover more ground in your Bel Air motorhome rental and see the beauty of Virginia. It might not be close but it sure is gorgeous, especially when you drive the famous Skyline Drive that leads park guests over one of the most scenic drives in the world.

City Sightseeing

Bel Air might not be a massive city with endless attractions but it has its fair share of things to do. The Harford Mall is a premier shopping center in the area, with hundreds of places to eat, shop, drink, and walk around. In addition to the mall, there are several pubs, breweries, wineries and other fun places to grab a drink when you visit Bel Air.

Those focused on history are in luck. Jerusalem Mill and Village was once a busy Quaker village over 200 years ago but now exists as a living outdoor museum where people can learn about the Quakers’ simple way of life back then. The park offers people the chance to live history rather than read about it.

Tudor Hall and the Hays House Museum are two of the oldest structures in Bel Air and are also little museums created to preserve the lovely houses and the past. Tours can be taken of these wonderful little cottages where all of the furniture remains.

Lastly, the Bel Air Courthouse Historic District is full of old architectural gems that you can spot and admire. The Bel Air Courthouse is the center focal point of this nationally recognized neighborhood known for its historical value and importance.

Merry Meadows Recreation Farm on the Maryland-Pennsylvania state line is a family-friendly campground, with a large swimming pool, bouncy castle, driving range, mechanical bull, sports courts, and an entertainment center.

Bar Harbor RV Resort & Marina is a place where guests can take their personal boats for a cruise, or swim in the refreshing waters of either the pool or the beach by the bay. This park is close to downtown Baltimore making it a nice choice for those hoping to explore the large city during their stay. Susquehanna State Park, mentioned before, is an option for those looking for a relaxing and nature-filled stay.
