Berthoud is a town in Larimer County, Colorado, that was incorporated in 1888. It was first settled in the 1860s by miners following the Colorado gold rush but these settlers failed in their homesteading attempts and moved on. They were replaced by others who had more success at ranching and farming the arid prairie land. The railroad arrived later in 1877 and a small depot was built where the tracks crossed Little Thompson Creek; the area was locally known as Little Creek but was later renamed Berthoud after the surveyor who designed the train route through the valley. However, within a few years, the Colorado Central Railroad decided that the town's proximity to the river created difficulty for the trains ascending out of the valley, and had the town's buildings moved by skid and pack animals to Berthoud's present location.

Book an RV in Larimer County and you are ready to begin exploring this part of Colorado, much as the first settlers did in the past (in spirit, at least). There are some other towns and cities that might prove interesting to visitors. Fort Collins boasts about its annual 300 days of sunshine. Greeley, in the 1920s, was the source of one-quarter of America's sugar. Platteville's Historical Society manages the town's pioneer museum, a non-profit institution. Brighton is a shopping hub for surrounding communities and is closer to Denver International Airport than most of Denver. Hygiene, originally named Pella, was renamed after Hygienic House, a sanitarium treating people for tuberculosis. A Berthoud travel trailer rental is the perfect vehicle for exploring the vast geography and wide open sky that is Colorado.

The Great Outdoors

Twin Sisters Peak is a popular hiking route with magnificent views from the summit. Visitors, once reaching the treeline, will have unobstructed views of the peaks and the surrounding area. It is a strenuous hike and proper equipment (shoes and clothing) is recommended, as is water.

Pawnee National Grassland is a protected recreational area located in a river basin preserve. It is managed by Forest Service personnel in order to balance public use with environmental protection. Visitors to the park can go horseback riding, fishing, camping, or engage in other recreational activities. It is open to scenic driving, although some routes might be better suited to passenger cars or off-road vehicles.

Welch Reservoir is a popular local fishing spot, featuring largemouth and smallmouth bass, catfish, and many more species. A license is required. Keep your Berthoud camper rental nearby so you will have somewhere to refrigerate your catch, fresh out of the water.

There are numerous RV parks and campgrounds near Berthoud. Some of these accommodations may have tent camping too. Your Berthoud RV trailer rental is a perfect match for Colorado RV parks, ensuring a cozy and relaxing vacation.

Loveland RV Resort is a year-round RV park that rents by the day, week, or month. On-site activities include horseshoes, miniature golf, and swimming, plus planned social events. Propane can be purchased on site and the park has plenty of tree foliage, providing shade when it's needed. There are restrooms and showers, laundry facilities, and a game room for days when socializing is on the to-do list.

Exploring The City

There is a lot to experience in Berthoud, but after a day filled with fresh air and discovery, it might be time to kick back and relax. The town has several custom breweries and a vineyard; the vineyard has tastings and a garden where customers may wander around. One of the breweries has a selection of custom beers plus a custom root beer for designated drivers. There is, at certain times, live music too. Those who like to spend their quiet time stargazing can check out the local observatory, which has not one but four professional class telescopes. The observatory can be rented for private parties and special events. Be sure to pencil in some time to hit the road in your Berthoud motorhome rental; after all, that is what RVs are for and how often do you get the chance?

The food scene in Berthoud is equally as impressive and ranges from inexpensive to moderately priced menus. There are several cafes and one of them offers breakfast fare, sandwiches, and salads. Many items are gluten- and dairy-free for the health conscious and the venue has outdoor seating along with spectacular mountain views from both inside and out. Another restaurant, a pizzeria, has a brick oven (all serious pizzerias should) and includes sub sandwiches on its menu, which are huge. If you make it here, be sure to try the pepperoni stromboli.

Of course, your Berthoud luxury RV rental is also your chance to throw together a nice home-cooked meal. Pick up some groceries and decide for yourself what a perfect meal should look and taste like, enjoyed on lawn chairs under an expansive Colorado sky. Or bring home your leftovers for a late night snack or lunch the next day. Whatever you decide to do, the choice is yours and that is how dream vacations are made.
