Settled in the 17th century, one of the first homes in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania was built in 1696 in Broomall, PA, by Thomas Massey. Massey was an indentured servant in England who was sent to America to work off his servitude. Once he completed it, he received 50 acres of land from his former master and an additional 50 acres from William Penn. As the years passed, a small village slowly sprang forth. When they established a post office, they had to choose a name for their settlement. At the time, John Martin Broomall was a successful congressman for the 7th congressional district during the 1860s, and the town residents wanted to honor him. Thus the town of Broomall was born.

The town gained some minor attention in the news when an overachieving bank robber from Broomall, PA, went on a spree and was caught. Known as the “Friday Night Bank Robber,” Carl Gaugasian is one of the most prolific criminals with a bank-robbing career spanning over 30 years.

The Great Outdoors

Book an RV in Broomall, PA, and gain a world of adventure and fun. Though Broomall is in the heart of Philadelphia suburbs, there are several pockets of wilderness around. Ridley Creek State Park, a modest 2,600-acre park, is a hilly little park with dense oak and maple woods and meadows. Ridley Creek runs through the valley, providing a pleasant gurgling backdrop for hikers, bikers, and horseback riders as they navigate some 13 miles of trails. When winter rolls around, the fun keeps on going. Sledding and cross-country skiing are popular activities as the mercury drops.

It might surprise some to learn that there’s another fair-sized park even closer to Philadelphia. Wissahickon Valley Park, though it appears tiny on maps, is a long, linear park that has over 50 miles of hiking trails. The paths wind through gorges, past a still-standing original covered bridge, the last of its kind in Philadelphia, and into open, fresh meadows. Massive oaks tower overhead, forming a dense canopy that blocks the city sounds. Photographers, birdwatchers, and nature lovers will appreciate this park. Over 200 species of birds reside in this park. Bring a Broomall camper rental and enjoy the plentiful parking. Unfortunately, camping is not allowed.

RV Parks

Don’t forget to figure out where you’ll park your Broomall RV rental overnight. This close to Philadelphia, overnight street parking is frowned upon, and in some areas, outright illegal. There are a few private RV parks and campgrounds in the area, though. In addition to the usual amenities, the West Chester KOA in Coatesville also has some “deluxe” features like a jump pad, dog-run area, and a gem mine. There are canoes and kayaks available for rent that guests can use at other nearby parks, too.

The sister KOA in Clarksboro, NJ, offers a K9 dog park, a swimming pool, and a catch-and-release fishing pond. Several lots are “drive-thrus,” which is a nice plus for people with a big travel trailer rental from Broomall.

In a pinch, a Walmart store might work for an unplanned overnight stay. There are a few within a five-mile radius, and the closest is in Springfield. Be sure to ask the store manager for permission beforehand.

Exploring the City

Explore the city in style with a luxury RV rental. Step back into time at the Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation. The living history farm provides visitors with a glimpse of life in the rural 1760s. Learn about the rudimentary tools used at the time. About how politics and religion impacted the inhabitants’ daily lives, even on the far fringes of Philadelphia. Also on display at the living museum are replicas and reproductions of genuine antiques (which are in storage off-site), artworks, historical documents, and other artifacts. The original farmhouse and barn are restored to its 1790s condition, too. When you hop into a Broomall motorhome rental, input Newtown Square, PA, instead of Edgemont into the GPS. The parking lot just outside the entrance can accommodate large rigs.

Philadelphia and history go hand in hand. Of all the historical sites in Philadelphia, perhaps the most important one is actually found on the outskirts of the city: Valley Forge. Valley Forge is the infamous site where General Washington and his troops encamped during 1777-1778, in one of the harshest winters on record. Bitter cold, disease, famine, and low morale very nearly turned the course of the American Revolution. Had these men not endured, this country might be a very different place today. The pastoral, rolling hills and lush green lawns belie the scene of that brutal winter. The museum and reproduction cabins have on display various artifacts used by the soldiers during the war, including uniforms, weapons, and other tools. Reenactors demonstrate how to make bullets, cook over campfires, and other techniques that are no longer used in the modern world.

Philadelphia isn’t just about history. There’s music. Craft beer. And art. The Magic Gardens in Philadelphia is an unusual one. It’s a collaboration of world-renowned artists and local community members and artists. The efforts have transformed a once-decaying space into one of the most modern, original art center in this country. The immersive art center is completely covered with mosaics, graffiti art, and murals. The center regularly holds special exhibitions, workshops, and events.

Craft beer is a craft that dates back well over 200 years, back to before the founding of this nation. Immigrants brought the skill from Europe and honed the art in Philadelphia. Many enterprising brewmasters have taken on the art, working on creating unique, delicious new flavors. Sterling Pig, based in Media, PA, makes limited, rotating batches of craft beer ranging from IPAs to stouts to Pilsners.

Whether your poison is the outdoors or the city scene, the perfect RV rental will bring the adventure of a lifetime. Rent an RV in Broomall, PA, and make new memories!
