The Great Outdoors

Lake Brownwood State Park is a recreational park that was designed and built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, starting in 1934 and achieving completion in 1942. The park has a recreation hall and a dance pavilion at the top of one of its hills; it has a rooftop observation deck where guests can see the surrounding countryside. Lake Brownwood is an excellent opportunity to enjoy fishing, swimming, and other water sports; there are trails for hiking that have benches spaced at intervals. One of the trails also allows mountain biking. Guests can also enjoy geocaching and other activities.

Hords Creek Lake is a perfect place to unwind and breathe in the natural surroundings. The park is centered around the lake, with rolling hills of oak trees on all sides. Visitors can use the lake to go kayaking, canoeing, and jet-skiing, swimming and fishing, and much more. There are trails where guests can go mountain biking, or the less ambitious can take in the views from a scenic drive. Tubing is popular, and camping is allowed; campers can have access to restrooms, showers, and picnic tables. There are also designated RV campsites with full hookups; park your Brownwood camper rental here, and you can combine the great outdoors with the great indoors and have it all.

Colorado Bend State Park was opened in 1987 after being created by purchasing and combining two former ranches. There are miles of trails for hiking and biking, but some may be single-use, so guests should be aware of the signs. The trails vary in difficulty from easy to quite hard, but there is something to challenge everyone; the trails pass near on-site springs and a river and one leads to a spectacular waterfall. There are caves that visitors can explore, and those seeking an additional challenge can backpack deeper into the park and primitive camp overnight.

RV Parks

There are a number of RV parks and campgrounds near Brownwood, and some of them may have long-term guests. Your Brownwood RV trailer rental is your guarantee of a relaxing and enjoyable vacation.

Shady Oaks RV Park is a family owned and operated RV campground with restrooms and showers, laundry facilities, and a dog walking area. Sites can be rented by the day, week, or month; some of the sites have level pads, pull-through access, and full hookups.

Exploring The City

The best places to begin your tour of Brownwood are the local museums, and there are a few of them. One of them is a testament to the history of trains in the state of Texas; another is dedicated to the history of high school football in the state and one of its most important coaches. Those seeking something more light-hearted should check out a local game room where customers are challenged to break out of a variety of situations using their intellect. While you are here, take a self-guided tour of the city in your Brownwood motorhome rental to appreciate the architecture and style of the community.

When dinnertime rolls around, Brownwood is the right place to be, with an impressive selection of restaurant styles and cuisines. One of the local cafes has a comfortable ambiance similar to a 1950's-style diner and has a combination of booth seating, tables, and bar stools. The cafe is inside of an old passenger train compartment with steps leading up to the entrance and neon signs and lights that add something to the character after dark. It has an extensive menu with items that are not fancy. Guests dining here should try any of their selection of hamburgers and finish the meal off with a slice of their homemade ice cream pecan pie. Portions are large, so expect to have your leftovers wrapped up (but maybe not the ice cream) and take it back to your Brownwood luxury RV rental for a late-night snack.
