This medium-sized town is found in the southwestern portion of the state. The nearest large city is Roswell, around 75 miles to the north, while the Texas state line is around 30 miles to the south. National and state parks, as well as Lincoln National Forest, are all found near town. This, along with Lake Carlsbad, that runs through the middle of town, all offer numerous opportunities for recreational activities.

Art museums, antique shops, vineyards, and theaters are all available locally. There are also numerous restaurants that are scattered along the town's Main Street. Historical sites; waterfalls and caves are also available to explore around the local region.

THE GREAT OUTDOORS

When you book an RV in Carlsbad, a whole slew of recreational activities will be available to you. Sitting Bull Falls is found in the Lincoln National Forest. This oasis-like site offers a welcome respite from the heat and sun of the surrounding area. The local river forms a falls here, as it winds through the National Forest. Carlsbad Caverns National Park is located around 30 minutes to the south of town. This site offers numerous activities for visitors, both above and below ground. The main attraction is, of course, the various caves and guided tours that are available. Tours range from a short, self-guided, one-room visit to a multi-hour, guided, "raw-cave" tour that requires you to bring your own headlamp and crawl on your belly through very tight spaces. One of these more daring tours even takes you to a place called Spider Cave. (Yes, it is named that for a reason). Call for tour information and reservations. Hiking trails are also available above-ground for those who prefer to stay on the surface.

Brantley Lake State Park features the southernmost lake in the state. Fishing and water sports are the primary activities available here, though hiking trails are also offered. The area is known for its dark skies at night, that make for good stargazing, as well as its birdwatching opportunities.

EXPLORING THE CITY

There’s many attractions to see near Carlsbad! The Pecos River Flume is known as "the river that crosses itself." This historical flume once carried water from the Pecos River (which it crosses) to local farms as part of the original irrigation system used by the settlers who founded the town. The aqueduct was actually showcased on the TV show "Ripleys Believe it or Not"! Nearby you will find the historic Eddy House, the first home built in the area.
