Central Lake is a charming town on the northern tip of Michigan’s lower peninsula. Since 1869 when the first post office was given to Central Lake, the town has been an exciting and lovely place to visit. It was not until 1895 that the town was officially platted, nearly three years after the first railroad was connected to the area.

This tiny hamlet has around 1,000 residents, a far cry from the larger cities to the south like Detroit and Grand Rapids. Visitors love to rent an RV in Central Lake due to the scenic lakes and forests that northern Michigan has in abundance. When you book an RV in Central Lake, you can tour the state looking for incredible parks, thrilling cities, and anything else that suits you.

Discover Central Lake

The Great Outdoors

You’ll have nothing but parks and lakes and beaches to explore when you pick up a Central Lake camper rental and tour the gorgeous wilderness areas of Michigan. The area around Central Lake is full of incredible places. Fisherman’s Island State Park can be seen north of town on the edges of Lake Michigan. Known for its legendary views and sunsets, this park covers a fabulous stretch of lakeshore, including a few offshore islands like Fisherman’s Island itself. The island is connected to the mainland with a small land bridge, so you can walk to it depending on the time of day. There are several rustic campgrounds where you can park the Central Lake campervan rental, as well as some enchanting hikes and swimming areas.

Wilderness State Park is even farther north, on the tip of the Lower Peninsula. Here you can also spend your days resting or reading on the sandy beaches lining Lake Michigan or hike along the water’s edge. There are historical structures, dunes, picnic areas, and undisturbed beaches, so don’t miss out on bringing your Central Lake motorhome rental to this divine park by the lake. Petoskey State Park is very similar to the previously mentioned parks, with deluxe views of the water, along with great beaches, dunes, and camping facilities.

If you want to visit the state’s lone national park, you can embark on a journey to Isle Royale National Park. And while the Central Lake RV rental can get you there, you'll have to leave it behind to explore this remote island in Lake Superior, far to the north near the Canadian border. It is more than worth it to visit this stunning destination, replete with incredible nature, extraordinary wildlife, hiking trails, secluded beaches, and hardly any visitors. If you are a history lover, you will appreciate the ancient archeological sites left behind by the region's first inhabitants several millennia ago.

RV Parks

Northern Michigan is full of natural parks and RV parks, so choosing a place to park the Central Lake camper rental should be easy. Honcho Rest Campground is one such place, where comfort and convenience are blended for a comfortable stay. There are rental cabins, spacious RV campsites, internet, cable TV, and lots of space to swim and fish in the lake.

Wild Cherry Resort is across the Grand Traverse Bay, in the midst of rolling vineyards, fishing villages, and amazing landscapes. There are large, private, shaded camping sites at this resort, so check it out while you are in the area.

Petoskey RV Resort has a lot of amenities, including a camp store for supplies and food, tennis courts, a hot tub, a swimming pool, a fitness center, a clubhouse, and a library.

City Attractions

Central Lake is a small town and has minimal attractions within its city limits. What it lacks in attractions, it makes up for with unparalleled natural beauty. There are a few shops to peruse, a distillery to sample some small-batch spirits, and apple orchards where you can pick your own fruit.

If you need to get some shopping and sightseeing in, take a quick ride to Traverse City. The City Opera House is reason enough to take the drive to Traverse City with your Central Lake motorhome rental. This historical treasure is a work of art both inside and out, still hosting plays and operas to this very day. Aside from its clear cultural value, this building has a fascinating history too; it was the first building in the entire city to use electricity, and you can learn even more about it with a tour of the old brick building.

The Dennos Museum Center is a fabulous place in the heart of the city to make the most of your trip while observing artistic masterpieces from all over the world. Over half the collection consists of Inuit art from the native people of Canada and Alaska, one of the rarest and most impressive collections in the world. There is also an auditorium space for live music events too.
