The Great Outdoors

When you pick up your RV rental, you’ll have plenty of outdoor activities to explore, many of which offer diverse activities within their boundaries. Texas isn’t well known for its national forests and large lakes, but the area surrounding Chandler is definitely filled with many natural features that are lacking in other parts of the Lone Star State.

Lake Palestine lies directly on the cities southern border and is a massive lake great for boating, fishing, swimming, and various water sports. The lake is freshwater, has many public boat launches, and stretches over a mile north to south. When you rent a motorhome in Chandler, it is easy to make this lake a first stop on your greater adventure.

A bit further of a drive will bring you to Davy Crockett National Forest, a massive national forest in eastern Texas that draws crowds from all over the state. This national forest offers everything from hiking to camping, hunting, horseback trails, water features, and more. Because this national forest is pretty big, you may want to spend more than one day in it, so consider picking up a travel trailer rental from Chandler to extend your time in the park.

Like Lake Palestine, Cedar Creek Reservoir is another great lake in the region that guests are able to easily explore from Chandler. This lake is a great place to go on a hot day to cool off, whether you want to do that by taking a dip in the cool waters or by cruising along the water in a boat while enjoying the breeze. Cedar Creek Reservoir covers over 32,000 acres and has a maximum depth of 53 feet.

RV Parks

There are more than 15 RV parks very near to the city, and surrounding nearby Tyler, for vacationers to pick from when they need a place to call home during their outdoor adventure. Because of the large collection of different RV parks in the area, there are a wide assortment of amenities to choose from, but the majority of them all offer basic hookups for RVs with convenient pull through spots.

If you are looking for something a bit more immersed in nature, then there is an RV park in nearby Sabine National Forest that may be more to your liking. This RV park offers full hookups, and more importantly, is surrounded by the Sabine National Forest which also offers views of the Toledo Bend Reservoir. On the way to this RV park, you may pass through San Augustine which has any big city features you may need as you head out to roughing it in your RV.

Exploring the City

An RV rental is great because it provides you access to the surrounding region and all it has to offer. During your adventures though, don’t forget to explore the city of Chandler itself to find some of the gems it has hidden around town.

The Chandler Museum and Visitor Center may be a great place to start your city adventure. It can tell you the history of the town and has plenty of old photos for you to look at. After visiting Chandler Museum, Desert Breeze Park in town is a pleasant place to picnic and have lunch. This park is on the west side of town and has plenty of meandering paths for you to stretch your legs or take a nice stroll. There is also a small railroad inside the park that children can ride, which makes for a great photo opportunity on a nice day.

A lot of the restaurants around Chandler follow the Texas trend of meat-centric menus, and vacationers, visitors, and locals find plenty of local options that sell high-quality meats cooked to order. There are plenty of classic American options available, as well as a full collection of all the typical chain restaurants if you are in a hurry. Given the size of the city, you shouldn’t have trouble finding restaurants any time of the day.
