Pennsylvania strikes again with another historical town tucked into Delaware County along U.S. Route 1. You can still see remnants of the early years by way of stone and brick dwellings. While some have been maintained and revitalized, others have been left to Mother Nature.
The charming town sits just north of Kennett Square and Chester. You may recognize it from a beautifully sad movie featuring Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston. Yes, that’s right the fictional Grogan family from Marley and Me called Chester Heights home. Now, come on through here with your travel trailer rental to see just why the real-life John Grogan chose to live here.
Tyler Arboretum is a popular nature escape located in Media. A small admission fee will gain you entrance into this non-profit public garden. The garden holds the title as one of the oldest arboreta in the northeastern United States. Though its landscape is beautifully maintained, there are also 17 miles of hiking trails through the more unkempt areas of the property. Tyler Arboretum will teach you all there is to know about the plants of your choosing while you get to meander about to enjoy their colors and scents.
Delaware County has a fair amount of wooded plots. One, in particular, protects over 2,000 acres worth. Also found in Media, Ridley Creek State Park offers a plethora of hiking trails alongside programs aimed to help you connect with the natural world around you. Fishing and hunting are also allowed with proper permits. Or, simply stop by here with your RV rental for a mid-afternoon picnic with a view.
For a park that combines both history with the local environment, check out Newlin Grist Mill in Glen Mills. Before you ask, the gristmill on property is still in live production and ready to teach you all about the process. The mill sits on a 160-acre parcel that is open for public use and outdoor recreation. There are trails that’ll wind you around the property and fishing is even allowed in the Chester Creek. Newlin Grist Mill is a very Pennsylvania kind of park.

KOA holds a location in nearby Coatesville. In true KOA fashion, there are full hookups for the RV, play areas for the kids, and a pool to kick those feet up. Another camping resort option could be Lake-In-Wood in Narvon. There is so much to do onsite you may have trouble dragging the kids out for a day on the town.
