Discover Clark

The Great Outdoors

Pick up your travel trailer rental in Clark and head to Oak Ridge Park, which lies in the far west of the township. It was transformed from a golf course into a recreational reserve in 2009 and is home to one of the only archery ranges in Central Jersey. Stretch your legs on one of the walking trails or bring your bike to explore this scenic park on two wheels.

A short drive east of Clark takes you to the Rahway River Parkway, a series of greenways that hug the banks of the Rahway River and its tributaries. The parklands are dotted with historic bridges dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with the parkway designed by the sons of renowned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted. Rahway River Park is one of the main recreational hubs along the greenway, with an outdoor swimming pool, athletic fields, and a children’s playground amidst its leafy setting.

Alternatively, head northwest to the Watchung Reservation in Mountainside, which encompasses a valley between the ridges of First Watchung and Second Watchung Mountains. Once inhabited by the Lenape Native Americans, the reservation is crisscrossed by numerous hiking and horseback riding trails that access the wooded slopes. If you’re a keen angler, head to the shores of Lake Surprise or visit the Trailside Nature & Science Center on the southern edge of the park to learn about the local ecology.

RV Parks

Pick up your motorhome rental in Clark and book one of the 50 RV sites available at the Liberty Harbor RV Park. It’s the closest RV park to New York (and offers views across the city skyline), with Wi-Fi, an on-site laundry room and a restaurant/bar also available.

If you’ve got a military ID, you can also inquire about staying at the Navy Earle MWR RV Park, which is home to just 15 RV sites. Aside from enjoying access to the park’s Wi-Fi, picnic tables, and barbecue grills, guests are also welcome to participate in a range of activities at the military base.

Or, you can make the 15-minute drive to the Walmart in Linden where you may be able to set up for a night or two with the manager’s permission.

Exploring the City

Park your RV rental near Clark and stroll through the township, stopping to visit the 9/11 Memorial and the Robinson Plantation and Museum. It preserves one of the few remaining examples of 17th-century architecture in the United States, with the house built in the 1690s for a local physician. Coincide your visit with one of the open house days to wander through the doctor’s office and rooms where bottles found buried in the yard are on display, together with a variety of antique farm tools in the basement.

Clark also makes a good base for visiting Woodbridge, which is the oldest original township in New Jersey. It was established as a royal charter in June of 1669 by King Charles II of England, with historical landmarks lining its streets today. Visit the Jonathan Singletary Dunham House, which was built around 1700 near the first gristmill established in New Jersey by a direct ancestor of former president Barack Obama. Also in Woodbridge is the Thomas Edison Center, which includes a memorial tower that marks the location of Edison's Menlo Park laboratory and a museum showcasing many of his creations.

If you want to spend a day in the Big Apple, you can jump aboard a train at the nearby Elizabeth Station and head into New York City. Get some retail therapy on Fifth Avenue, wander through the green oasis of Central Park, or catch a show on Broadway, then soak up the incredible city views from the Top of the Rock. New York is also home to some of the world’s most celebrated museums, including the Guggenheim and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Clark is home to numerous supermarkets where you can pick up groceries, as well as a good selection of restaurants, bistros, and grills for dining out. There are also gas stations if you want to fill up your camper rental in Clark.
