Clio is a city in Genesee County, Michigan, and was first settled in 1837 under the name Varna. A railway was constructed through the town in 1861 along with a station in the town, and the name was changed to Clio (a muse) in 1866. In the 21st century, Clio was briefly home to a professional football club that moved there from Flint but later returned to Flint following a disagreement with the Clio School Board (the team played at Clio High School's Pride Stadium). Clio was chosen in 2007 along with several other cities to participate in a state-sponsored downtown revitalization program.

The Great Outdoors

Huron-Manistee National Forests is an attempt to reverse the effects of industrialization and urbanization on the natural landscapes that include dry sand prairie remnants, coastal marshlands, oak savannas and other varieties of ecosystems. At the same time, limited and selective logging is practiced in coordination with the restoration strategies and efforts to provide outdoor access to the public. It is a popular destination for swimming, picnicking, and camping; hunting and fishing are allowed, as are wildlife viewing and photography, and canoeing and kayaking. This national forest is a slightly longer distance from Clio for a day trip; take your Clio camper rental and make it an overnight trip, combining the wild of nature with the creature comforts of your vacation home-away-from-home.

Crossroads Village & Huckleberry Railroad is a family-friendly historical village with a working passenger train and other amenities that will entertain and educate. The village consists of a collection of authentic 19th-century buildings that have been restored and are used to demonstrate what life in the time period was like. The village also has a paddlewheel riverboat that takes visitors for a cruise around Mott Lake. The village is open during the summer months and at select times during the rest of the year; visitors should call ahead to confirm opening times if not visiting during the summer months.

Ortonville Recreation Area features rolling wooded hills surrounding Big Fish Lake; it is a popular destination with outdoor enthusiasts seeking opportunities to hike, camp, swim, and enjoy other activities. There is a shooting range for rifles and archery; boating and fishing are allowed, and there are public restrooms and a beach where guests can swim. In the winter, the park is a good destination for snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing.
