The Patuxent Wine Trail consists of quite a few vineyards in southern Maryland, where tasting is encouraged and tours are welcomed.  Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum is a delightful combination that educates both adults and children about the natural history of the area. Archeological sites dating back some 9,000 years can be found in the park next to the museum. Lastly, Chesapeake Beach Water Park is an ideal place for families to spend the day, with fun water slides and splash pools, and a lazy river for refreshing and relaxing.

The village of Dunkirk is surrounded by forest land and open space, as is much of Calvert County, so camping spots are easy to come by. Milltown Landing and Spice Creek are two of the campsite areas along the Patuxent River where campers can park their recreational vehicles. Breezy Point Beach and Campground has some of the nicest beaches in the area, and safe waters for swimming and boating.
