Formally incorporated in 1905, Eagle is a dreamy town in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado where you can enjoy the trip of a lifetime. Eagle shares its name with the county it inhabits and has been a community hub since the late 19th century.

The town enjoys the use of both U.S. Route 6 and Interstate 70, making it an incredibly easy place to get to and from when you rent an RV. Eagle is full of splendid historic buildings and quaint roads that are excellent for navigating the town on foot. But aside from all the charm and warmth this high elevation paradise exudes, the main reason most people come to town is to delight in epic scenery in the Rocky Mountains. This outdoors hub gets more popular every year due to its location between other major vacation destinations like Glenwood Springs to the west and Frisco to the east. Mountain biking, hiking, trail running, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, mountain climbing, and camping are all deeply ingrained in the local culture and once you book an RV in Eagle, you can see for yourself why this once hidden gem is undergoing a renaissance.

Explore the Outdoors

Now that it's been established that Eagle is an epic vacation spot with both ethereal beauty and excitement, you can begin to imagine all the places you would like to see in Colorado when you rent an RV. There are seemingly infinite options when it comes to finding parks and forests to camp in or explore, so personal taste must be considered. If you need a body of water where you can cool off during the shockingly hot summer months, Stagecoach State Park is as good a place to start. There is a large manmade lake where you can swim, fish, or get on the water with a boat, with boat ramps and miles of hiking trails found throughout the park. You can have a picnic on the beach or camp along the water’s edge with your Eagle camper rental.

The Dillon Reservoir near Frisco and Dillon is the central focal point to the entire area. Aside from world-class skiing and snowboarding, the area is a lovely place to spend a summer day, with fantastic views of the water and ample space for recreation activities. Prospector, Heaton Bay, and Peak One are just a few of the campgrounds on the edges of the reservoir where you can stay overnight in your Eagle RV rental by owner. It doesn’t hurt that the lake is surrounded by ski resorts and mountain biking areas.

Sylvan Lake State Park is located deep in the White River National Forest and worthy of a visit, with stunning hikes through aspen groves overlooking the water. Much like the previously mentioned parks and recreation areas, you can rest peacefully at the campgrounds of Sylvan Lake in the comfort of your Eagle motorhome rental. Additionally, there are yurts, cabins, picnic areas, and a visitor center to give guidance to first time guests of the park.

If you find yourself in Colorado for a nature-themed vacation, missing out on the national parks of the state is simply not an option. There are a handful to choose from, but Rocky Mountain National Park is both the closest to Eagle and the most well-known in the Centennial State. Over four million visitors pour into the park each year to venture off to the most remote corners of the 250,000-acre wilderness. The snowcapped peaks of the majestic Rocky Mountains are the star of the show and no matter what time of year you see them, they are impressive. There are campgrounds scattered throughout the park and miles of hiking trails weaving their way through the evergreen forests and meadows of wildflowers.

RV Parks to Visit

Finding a camping area or RV park near Eagle is no hassle, as it is impossible to throw a rock in Colorado and not hit a suitable camping spot. Carbondale / Crystal River KOA is part of a national chain of campgrounds. You can swim in the park’s pool, steam in the sauna, go fishing, or rent bicycles to explore the area when you stay at the KOA.

Glenwood Canyon Resort has accommodations of all type, like cabins, cottages, tent sites, and, of course, riverfront RV camping sites for you and your Eagle luxury motorhome rental. The resort has a bar and grill, a rock-climbing wall, an adventure center, a gift shop, and a shuttle service to the Glenwood Hot Spring Pool. River Dance RV Resort in Gypsum is a pet-friendly establishment that is perfect for people wanting to spend their vacation fishing in the tranquil river.

City Sightseeing

There are locally owned restaurants, breweries, distilleries, cafes, shopping centers, and lots of outdoors adventure companies competing for your patronage, but no noteworthy attractions to speak of. The Eagle Tourist Information Center is a valuable resource just off of I-70 where travelers can read some brochures and ask knowledgeable staff members about Eagle County and what there is to do there.

The Frontier Historical Museum over in Glenwood Springs is a fascinating display of old antiques, memorabilia, and information about the Old West. Criminals and lawmen, the mining boom, the local native tribes, and many other topics are discussed at this wonderful facility.

While here, you can get involved with one of the cave tours in Glenwood Cavern, and you'll have the option to go to a 4-D movie, play laser tag, and enjoy many other fun activities for children of all ages.

Don’t forget that just a short ride to the east brings you to an area with dozens of ski and snowboard resorts with Colorado snow that is unparalleled when it comes to riding and skiing. Vail, Breckenridge, Keystone, A-Basin, Copper Mountain: all of these mountains are epic ways to experience Colorado.
