On the edges of Lake Charlevoix, at the mouth of the Jordan River, East Jordan is a small community of a few thousand people in northern Michigan. What was originally just a lumber mill camp and a general store back in the 1870s would combine two separate communities on opposite banks of the river to create East Jordan.

East Jordan was a rather large industrial hub despite its remote location and small size, home to the famous East Jordan Iron Works, two railroads, and a few factories. Although East Jordan Iron Works still remains one of the region’s most important businesses to this day, many of the other industries have since left the area. Fortunately, East Jordan is a few miles from the shores of Lake Michigan, boasting some spectacular scenery in its own right. With so many local parks and beaches to visit, it's no wonder why so many people book an RV in East Jordan for a pleasant stay on Michigan’s lower peninsula.

Discover East Jordan

The Great Outdoors

Most of East Jordan’s tourism relies on the sheer number of parks and recreation areas within an hour's drive of town. This outdoor-loving state is full of excellent nature parks that are ideal for you and your East Jordan camper rental, like Young State Park right around the corner in Boyne City. Much like East Jordan, this state park is situated on the shores of Lake Charlevoix, with lots of beach frontage to walk, swim along, or fish. There are five miles of hiking trails and tons of trout and bass to catch in the lake.

Fisherman’s Island State Park is not too far from East Jordan either, giving you the perfect chance to bring your East Jordan campervan rental to the shores of Lake Michigan. The park covers a great deal of coastal land, along with a series of islands along the coast. There are splendid hikes to be had in the forest, rustic campgrounds where you can stay with the East Jordan camper rental, dense forests to trek through, and rolling dunes overlooking the lake. Wilderness State Park is also found on the edges of Lake Michigan, albeit farther to the north near the tip of the Lower Peninsula. Here you can see some dunes, historical structures, old forests, picnic areas, and several long-distance trails. There are boat launches, fishing areas, and, of course, a few campgrounds. Don’t forget to take a look at the stars while you are there, as this dark sky preserve is known for its dark skies and stellar views of the cosmos.

You might not be able to bring your East Jordan motorhome rental to Isle Royale National Park, but it's safe to say that it is one of the country’s most remote and magical parks. The half-million-acre island in Lake Superior is far removed from civilization, with hardly any visitors making the boat ride over to visit it each year. The island is home to elk, wolves, moose, beavers, and other woodlands animals that will leave you astonished. If you bring a tent, you can still find a way to camp out at one of the island’s rustic campgrounds, but no vehicles are allowed.

RV Parks

There are quite a few places where you can park the travel trailer rental near East Jordan. Silver Bullet Campground is a barebones, rustic campground with enough charm to entice you into staying longer. There are Adirondack chairs to lounge on, a private lake for swimming and boating, wireless internet access, and much more.

Petoskey RV Resort is just outside of Petoskey, with amenities including a swimming pool, tennis courts, a game room, a library, and a fitness center. Petoskey KOA has a hot tub, a swimming pool, an on-site eatery, volleyball courts, a camp store, a pet park, and a covered pavilion for events and socializing.

City Attractions

You might want to leave your expectations of city nightlife and big-name attractions at the door when you rent an RV in East Jordan. Instead, you can find some local businesses on the shores of Lake Charlevoix with delightful views. Aside from some art galleries, a glass company, and a few bars and restaurants here and there, one of the only attractions in the town is Raven Hill Discovery Center. Here you can take your children to learn about the natural world, stoking their curiosity and rewarding them with fun and thrilling discoveries.

Over in Petoskey, there is even more fun to be had, especially when you visit some of the great restaurants on the shores of Lake Michigan. The Historic Gaslight District is a lovely place to shop and explore, particularly in the winter when it becomes an enchanting village blanketed with newly fallen snow. Bakeries, bars, bookshops, art galleries, and wine shops line the old streets of this historic neighborhood, with lots of old buildings that have been refurbished and put to good use.

The casino in Petoskey is a wonderful place to test your luck, gaming on the floors of one of Michigan’s top casinos. The facility is run and owned by the Odawa Indians, with thousands of feet of gaming floors. You can play blackjack, coin slots, poker, roulette, or simply grab a bite to eat at the mouthwatering buffet.
