In late 1600s, England awarded William Penn with a land charter, which comprised much of Pennsylvania. Penn later sold the land in parcels, and Fairview Village was a part of one of these parcels. The town was officially established in mid-1700s. Situated on top of a hill, it had an excellent view of Philadelphia, which is how its name came about: Fairview Village.

For several years, Fairview Village and the other neighboring towns had no bridges. As a result, many of the roads at the time followed the creeks at length to find shallow crossing points. Some of the modern roads are laid over these old routes and are quite circuitous. One of the oldest insurance companies in Pennsylvania, established in 1834, was called the “Farmers’ Union Horse Company for the Recovery of Stolen Horses and Detecting the Thieves.” This insurance company is still in business today, though its objective has changed over the years. The Farmers’ Union Horse Company today mainly focuses on protecting the interests of the local horse owners, maintaining the equestrian trails, and supports horse rescues.

The closest large town is Norristown, about five miles southeast.

The Great Outdoors

Rent an RV in Fairview Village, and gain access to a world of adventure and outdoor fun. No roughing it necessary! Evansburg State Park is a good-sized park. Though the woods are rapidly retaking the abandoned farmlands, there are still remnants of old derelict mills, farmhouses, and barns dotting the park. Miles of multi-use trails wind through the valley. Skippack Creek, which neatly divides the valley in half, is a popular fishing destination. Catch smallmouth bass, catfish, panfish, and brown and rainbow trout, and more. Hunting and trapping are allowed at certain times of year only with the necessary permits. Deer are often spotted in this park, and on occasion, black bears -- though they tend to be shy.

French Creek State Park, which is several miles to west, is a large park that shares a part of its territory with the Schuylkill Highlands (SHOO-kill). The Highlands is one of the largest remaining unbroken forest lands in Pennsylvania. The mix of terrains, forest, aquatic, and wetlands, creates a world of adventure for everyone. Hike, bike, fish, camp, and photograph. In addition to being designated an “Important Bird Area” by Audubon, the Pennsylvania Game Commission has awarded the “Important Mammal Area” designation to this park, which grants some protection to the wild otters and black bears habitats.

Over 50 miles of trails are available for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. The Horseshoe Trail connects with the Appalachian Trail. Bring your Fairview Village travel trailer rental here and enjoy a day out with family and friends.

Brandywine Creek Campgrounds in Lyndell might be a good candidate as well. It offers 30/50 amps service, a fishing pond, a playgrounds, and free WiFi. The site is in picturesque woods in the heart of the Brandywine Valley, not far from Pennsylvania Dutch and Amish country.

Hop into your camper rental from Fairview Village and go exploring! Elmwood Park Zoo is a small but mighty zoo where hundreds of animals make their home. See animals like cougars, giraffes, ferocious jaguars, zebras, and more. The Treetop Adventure at Elmwood Park Zoo is America’s only zip line course that takes adventurers flying over the animal exhibits. The Zoo also offers animal encounters programs in which guests can interact with animal ambassadors, like owls and raptors, and learn about them. Children aged between eight and 13 can become a Zookeeper for a Day, and get hands-on experience caring for the wild animals.

Several homes and buildings in Fairview Village and the surrounding towns are on the National Register of Historic Structures. One notable example is the Evangelical Congregational Church of Worcester, which was also an Underground Railroad way station (a safe house) for the freed and escaped slaves. There are many other similar buildings around Pennsylvania because the state borders weren’t always observed by the southerners.

To learn more about the local history and see the artifact from late 1700s, visit the Farmers Union Hall, which is currently the home of Worcester Historical Society’s museum and library in Lansdale. It houses hundreds of documents, art, and even photographs ranging from late 1700s to early 1900s.

This part of Pennsylvania is known for its gently rolling hills, lush greenery, and certainly, being steeped in history. Rent a luxury motorhome in Fairview Village, and go explore the Quaker State!
