Franklin is a city in and the county seat of Robertson County, in the state of Texas; the city has two distinct structures of note, the Robertson County Courthouse which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Franklin Carnegie Library, named after the Carnegie Corporation which provided a grant for the library's construction. The county is named after one of its early settlers, Sterling C. Robertson, who was one of the signatories of the Texas Declaration of Independence. The county has one ghost town of record, Owensville.

Book an RV in Robertson County, and you are ready for an interesting and rewarding vacation in one of America's most iconic states. There are other towns and cities that are worth visiting at least briefly. Buffalo briefly changed its name in 1993/4 and 1999 to “Blue Star” and “Green Star” respectively as a show of support for Dallas Cowboys and Dallas Stars who were playing teams from Buffalo, New York. Centerville created and hosted an annual black-eyed pea festival starting in 1937. Madisonville was named after President James Madison. Bryan was originally settled as part of a land grant from Spain. Milano was initially located two miles west of its original location. Your Franklin RV trailer rental is your ticket to explore this historic area at your leisure.

The Great Outdoors

Fort Boggy State Park is a cultivated outdoor recreation area where guests can enjoy swimming, hiking, and mountain biking. The park's lake has a boat ramp for rowboats, canoes, and kayaks; fishing is allowed on the lake. Visitors can borrow fishing rods and other gear if they wish. Park rangers conduct environmental education events open to the public. Keep your Franklin camper rental nearby and take your catch of fish from the lake to the fridge without batting an eye.

Davy Crockett National Forest encompasses woodlands, streams, and wildlife habitats in East Texas. The park contains miles of trails for hiking and horseback riding, as well as some undisturbed areas where enthusiasts can experience nature in its purest form. Camping is allowed throughout the park except during hunting season when it is restricted to certain areas. The Ratcliff Lake Recreation Area offers visitors a chance to picnic, swim, and much more; this area has a beach and bathhouse, showers, a concession stand, and interpretive forest trail.

Sam Houston National Forest is a public recreational area and an important archeological site; experts believe that the area may have been occupied as much as 12,000 years ago. The park supports a resident wildlife population along with grazing by nearby ranch animals, selected logging practices, and the public. Guests are invited to hike, camp, and canoe, amongst other allowable activities, but are reminded not to disturb any artifacts they encounter and to report their findings to park personnel.

Exploring The City

There are many things to do in and around Franklin. There is a drive-through safari where visitors can get a peek at a wide variety of resident animals, but don't be alarmed when the animals peek back (or stick their head in your car window, as giraffes sometimes do). There is also a winery where guests can chat with the owners while sampling some of the products on hand. Don't forget to take your Franklin motorhome rental for a spin around the countryside; RV vacations are made for hitting the open road and sitting high above the surrounding traffic. It is an experience you don't want to miss.

When it is time for dinner, Franklin has you covered. One Southern restaurant is a trailer/food truck that does a thriving business, always a good sign. Guests can finish their meal in the parking lot or take it home to their Franklin luxury RV rental for consumption later. Portions are large and spicy, so don't be embarrassed about asking for a glass of water. Guests trying the food here should sample the crawfish etouffee and sausage. One local diner has an older setting but is clean and comfortable. It serves up a variety of comfort foods, from salads to burgers and everything in between. Diners checking out this local favorite should sample the grilled chicken salad, accompanied by a hot and delicious cup of coffee.
