Gallatin is located in the northwest part of Missouri, between Kansas City and Des Moines, IA. Given that it is located very near to the Great Plains, it shares similar landscapes as you’d expect in the middle of the country. The rolling hills in the area are mostly covered with farmlands, and you’re more likely to find grass prairies than forests.

When you book an RV in Gallatin you will enjoy how this city has a rich history that took place shortly after its founding in 1837. This small town was the location of the Gallatin Election Day Battle, an event that transpired when approximately 200 people attempted to forcibly prevent Mormons from voting in a local election. Modern-day Gallatin is certainly shaped by its turbulent past, and history lovers may enjoy exploring all the landmarks around town in their motorhome rental from Gallatin.

The Great Outdoors

Vacationers to the area should expect the standard Midwestern landscape, pleasantly rolling hills dotted with small groves of trees, prairie grass, and farmlands. This type of landscape certainly makes for a nice drive in an RV rental, but there is more available for those seeking outdoor adventures.

Directly in town is Dockery Park, which is a collection of walking paths, playgrounds, and shady trees under which guests can enjoy a picnic or a break from the sun. This small park in town is easily accessible in a camper rental from Gallatin. It makes for a nice place to stretch your legs if you’ve been driving all day.

Just south of town is another great option for stretching your legs and immersing yourself in nature, the Gallatin Conservation Area. Being home to various wildlife species is the key function of the conservation area, and guests are asked to respect any animals and plants they encounter. If you’re looking for a nice place to take your dog for a walk on leash, the conservation area has lots of trails to satisfy your needs.

Depending on the season, the nearby Lake Viking offers a couple of different entertainment opportunities for guests to the area. In the summertime, it could be a relaxing place to park your luxury RV rental from Gallatin and enjoy a day in the water. In the colder months, this lake can still be used for recreation, but above water activities like paddle boards and kayaks are recommended. This lake also supports fishing and small personal watercraft like kayaks and paddle boards, both of which can be rented locally if you desire.

RV Parks

When you pick up your travel trailer rental in Gallatin, you’ll have a lot to explore, but it is always a good idea to get your lodging figured out when you book your RV. There are a few options around Gallatin, but unfortunately, none are located right near to the city itself. One of the nearest RV parks is the Soggy Bottom Campground, south of Gallatin near Hamilton. This RV park has two different RV locations to choose from, Prairie Hilltop and Shag Bark. The former is located in on an open hill and offers views of the area, while the latter is situated in the trees and overlooks a lake. Both have full hookup options for your RV, so you’ll be set when it comes to water, electricity, and sewage.

The other main option in the area is located to the east, near Maysville, and is called the Pony Express RV Park. This park is more geared toward family-friendly experiences and is surrounded by over 100 acres of rolling countryside. They have full hookups, and additional amenities like air-conditioned recreation rooms, restrooms and showers, laundry, and even a petting zoo. The Pony Express RV Park is also conveniently located near to the Pony Express Lake Conservation Area, a great place to hike and explore at your leisure.

Exploring the City

The small city of Gallatin has a lot to offer for those who take the time to visit, even if all of the attractions might not be what you’d typically expect as tourist destinations. When you rent an RV in the area and need a place to eat, you will find various restaurants offering Mexican, American, deli-style sandwiches, and more on Main St.

A self-guided tour of the churches in Gallatin is an interesting way to spend the day, especially given the rich local history concerning different religions. There are over a half a dozen churches in city limits, some of which have been in practice since the late 1800s. The town of Gallatin is very walkable since there isn’t much traffic, and as many of the churches are located near to one it is possible to either walk between them or drive, whichever you prefer.

When you are wandering around town be sure to stop by the three buildings that are located on the National Register of Historic Places, including the Daviess County Rotary Jail and Sheriff's Residence, Daviess County Courthouse, and the A. Taylor Ray House. These three buildings have been restored and maintained to fit their original descriptions, and they definitely stand out from the community surrounding them. Two of the buildings are public, so it may be possible to arrange for a self-guided tour.

Just north of town is the "Adam-ondi-Ahman," a very special religious location for those who worship at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. This large swath of land was once a settlement for between 500 and 1,000 Latter-day Saints and is believed to be the assembly point during the Second Coming. Whether or not you care about this location for its religious significance, the specific piece of land is easy to drive to in your RV trailer rental from Gallatin and offers a beautiful overlook of the surrounding region.
