Genesee is a chartered township in Genesee County, Michigan (but should not be confused with the community of Genesee which is part of the township); it was originally settled in 1833. Four lumber mills were built in Genesee Township (then known as Geneseeville) in the mid-1830s, followed by a grist mill in 1847. Prior to the establishment of Genesee, the area is thought to have not been inhabited although a Native American burial ground was discovered upon settlement. Genesee County was established in 1835 and is the site where an ancient whale fossil was discovered; the fossil was unearthed in a quarry in Thetford and is believed to be approximately 11,000 years old.

Search for an RV in Genesee County, and you will be one step closer to an exciting vacation in one of Michigan's historical areas. There are a number of towns and villages that are also worth visiting. Saginaw has been an important lumber, industrial and manufacturing city throughout its history; today its economy is focused on manufacturing and clean energy. It is also the subject of a song by Canadian musician Terry Jacks. Lapeer is an adaptation of the French word “la pierre” (meaning “stone”), a salute to the nearby town of Flint. Lansing is the capital of Michigan and a center for industry, commerce, government, education, and culture. Your Genesee travel trailer rental is your invitation to explore this great area.

The Great Outdoors

Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge is an undeveloped expanse of marshes, rivers, and floodplain forest located in an area with agricultural and urban sections. It serves as a sanctuary for migratory birds and endangered species, both plant and animal. It has been recognized for its impact on these areas but also serves the public as an outdoor recreational area. Hunting and fishing are allowed within the park; visitors can also view the wildlife from one of the many trails or from a scenic auto route through the park.

Indian Springs Metropark is a multi-use natural area where visitors can learn about the local landscape and wildlife, explore it on their own, or partake in one of the many recreational activities on hand. It has a water park and playground for young children, volleyball and horseshoes for adults, and scenic picnic areas. Guests can also head out and explore the paved and unpaved trails, and witness the wetlands and meadows that comprise the area, and the resident wildlife. In winter, guests can cross-country ski or go sledding. Keep your Genesee Charter Township camper rental nearby, and you can enjoy a hot meal or drinks between or after activities, an especially nice reward if you are a skier.

Rose Oaks County Park is a cultivated outdoor recreation area consisting of upland tree stands, open rolling meadows, and glacial lakes. It has miles of trails that are accessible to hikers, cyclists, and equestrians; some of the trails have accessible boardwalks, and cross-country skiers can use the trails in the winter. Geocachers can explore the lakeshores and fishing is allowed on shore or by boats that can be carried in, with either electric motors or self-propulsion (oars or paddles).

RV Parks

There are numerous RV parks and campgrounds in the surrounding area, and some of them may have mobile homes. The RV rental from Genesee Charter Township is all you will need to guarantee an exemplary and unique vacation experience.

Washakie Golf & RV Resort is a family-friendly RV campground with plenty of shade and a private beach; the resort is pet-friendly and has modern restrooms, laundry facilities, a camp store and snack bar, and a tavern/grill. Exploring The City

There is a lot to do in the area surrounding Genesee, and visitors should start with the farmers market where they can pick up off-the-farm-fresh fruits and vegetables as well as cheese, meat, and baked goods, then take them back to their motorhome rental near Genesee Charter Township to enjoy later on. One of the local historic villages has an antique operational steam train on which visitors can ride, and there are urban nature parks; one of the parks has a cement waterfall and trails that visitors can traverse (the trails are easy and mostly level). The community has a number of historic buildings that are always fascinating to see in person and learn about.

When it's time for dinner, there is lots to choose from, and prices are reasonable. One steakhouse and brewery serves great food with great beer, a perfect combination. Samplers are available for those who would like to try more than one of the establishment's brews, and the decor is nice. Guests dining here should try the prime rib with garlic mashed potatoes (not that anyone needs reminding when it's prime rib). One Japanese bistro serves both steak and seafood in the traditional Japanese style plus sushi; the hibachi tables allow the chef to cook your meal right in front of you (and dazzle you with their knife-juggling skills). Takeout is available so you can dine in or bring your meal back to your Genesee Charter Township luxury RV rental to enjoy it with a distant sunset or under a star-filled sky (something you can brag about when you get home).
