Grantham is an unincorporated town in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. It was established prior to 1915 when homes were built in the “downtown” area for factory workers; many of these houses still exist. The factory was owned by Messiah College's first president, S.R. Smith and produced noodles. After it had closed, the property was used for aircraft parts and later, as a greeting card company. The community was home to Grantham National Bank which printed the local currency before currency became the federal government's responsibility. Today, there is very little in the community outside of Messiah College. No industry or mass commercialization; the town is primarily the haven of students who attend Messiah College, the college's staff and faculty, and the parents of some of the college's students. The town is largely quiet and traffic free, encouraging residents to walk and bike; a community association symbolizes citizen involvement in town affairs. The town has one property on the National Register of Historic Places, the Gilbert Bridge, added in 1989.

Dauphin is situated on a section of land on the east bank of the Susquehanna River that is the gateway to the Appalachian Mountains. Hershey is called "Chocolatetown, USA" and "The Sweetest Place on Earth" due to the presence of Hershey's Chocolates. Columbia was originally named Wright's Crossing (after the first river crossing in the area) and almost defeated Maryland in becoming the first U.S. capital city. New Oxford's population in 1886 was reportedly 209, which included 67 horses, 40 head of cattle, 65 carriages, and 14 gold watches. Chambersburg was directly involved in the French and Indian War, the Whiskey Rebellion, the Harpers Ferry raid, and the American Civil War. Your Grantham travel trailer rental is your introduction to this vibrant area.

The Great Outdoors

Bald Eagle State Forest is a working forest that combines a number of public services including outdoor recreation; their management practice includes active timber harvests, natural gas drilling and prescribed fires, as well as protecting streams from logging and isolating undisturbed areas to protect rare species and the forest overall. Its area stretches from the Susquehanna Valley to the Allegheny Mountains, and it has sandstone ridges as high as 2,300 feet above sea level. Visitors can enjoy a number of activities such as hiking and mountain bike riding, fishing and hunting, camping, and much more; keep your Grantham RV trailer rental nearby, and you can finish your outdoor excursions in the lap of luxury.

Rothrock State Forest is a working forest that was created, like many others, under a government-sponsored work program during the Great Depression; it is a multi-use working forest where the public may enjoy outdoor recreational activities such as boating, kayaking and fishing, hiking and mountain biking, and more. In the winter, the forest trails are ideal for snowshoes, snowmobiles, and cross-country skiing. Hunting and picnicking are allowed.

Tuscarora State Forest is a working forest with a variety of plant and animal species. Tree stands within the forest include majestic oak and hemlock, white pine, beech, and many other varieties, and the forest is home to a population of golden eagles amongst other bird species. Timber harvest practices include selective logging that provides wood material while at the same time protecting the forest's existence. Visitors can use the forest for picnicking and camping, hiking and biking, and other activities year round.

RV Parks

There are a multitude of RV parks and campgrounds in the area surrounding Grantham, and some of them may have mobile homes. Your Grantham RV rental is the perfect vehicle to provide you with a comfortable and relaxing vacation.

Western Village RV Park is a family-oriented RV campground with restrooms and showers, laundry facilities, and a camp store. It has a playground and a large recreation room, a swimming pool and miniature golf course, and more. The park offers numerous sports and activities, like horseshoes and basketball to name few, and has a walking trail and metered propane. The park has individual sites (some of which have pull-through access), rental cabins, and a tent camping area.

Exploring The City

There is a lot to see and do in Grantham and the surrounding area, such as theme parks, a chocolate world, and a few outdoor gardens where guests can take a self-guided tour at their leisure. The landscape and flowers are augmented by butterflies that frequent the park. There is also a limestone cavern where guests can take a guided tour; the cavern is an echo chamber that was used by the local Native Americans and remains at a constant comfortable temperature year-round. Those looking for a thrill can check out the local theme parks and roller coasters; those who aren't have their choice of museums or the state capitol building which is both historical and a great photo-op. Don't forget to take your Grantham motorhome rental for a drive while you have the chance; RV driving can be addictive, though, so don't say you weren't warned.

When it's time for dinner, there are a few restaurants in Grantham (which is largely a residential neighborhood) and several more a little farther out. One rustic bar and grill is open from around lunchtime to late evening (later on weekends) and has an open, spacious seating area. It also has an extensive menu (for lunch and dinner) and a Sunday brunch. Portions are large, and you should expect to take your leftover meal home to your Grantham luxury RV rental for a late-night snack.
