The Grants Pass, Oregon, area is like a playground for the outdoor enthusiast. There are several nearby national recreation areas, as well as boundless opportunities for hiking, camping, fishing, climbing, birding, mountain biking and more.

For a relatively small town, this area is packed with many opportunities to explore the culture and art of the area. Most famous of all is the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, a regional repertory theater in nearby Ashland, Oregon. Since its start in 1935, the festival has presented all of Shakespeare's plays, and non-Shakespeare plays, for more than 30,000 total performances. The season lasts eight months (winter months are skipped), and it is a must-see attraction, with visitors from all over the world.

The Grants Pass area is known for its festivals, including some of the state’s favorites. Art Along the Rogue is a street painting and musical festival, held each year in October. Go Back to the Fifties in July, features classic cars from the area. Boat races, horse races, and parades are all part of what makes Grants Pass so much fun.

The historic Rogue Theatre has been transformed into a performing arts palace that hosts local and national acts all year round. Check out the First Friday Art Nights, where downtown stores hold art shows, promotional events, and cocktail hours. For even more art, visit the Grants Pass Museum of Art, with samplings of contemporary art, rotating exhibits, poetry workshops, and adults’ and children’s art activities.
